Arrogant Bastards

I'm sure many have seen this already, but I thought it was funny as hell:

Wow - rough day. I won't make it either - but my excuse sounds so mundane in comparison I'm just going skip it. Hi everyone, I can't make the meeting...again. I tore my ACL in my knee Tuesday and can barely move around, just got back from a funeral for my wife's grandma, my mom went to the emergency...

I tried it a little early - had only been in the bottle 4 days. It wasn't nearly as hoppy as I had hoped. I will try another tommorrow (almost 2 weeks in the bottle) and see what I think. First impression is that it's not bad, but is unremarkable.

Yeah - lots of hops - Columbus, Glacier, and US Goldings for aroma. I'm excited about trying it. It's the first batch using my new wort chiller, glass carboys, and using a secondary fermenter. Maybe I changed to many variables at once, but they all should result in better beer I would think. I will ...

Finishing Spec Grav

I just bottled an IPA last night and the fisnishing spec grav was 20. That is a significant drop fromt he 90 it started out as, but I am wondering if all of that residual sugar is going to make it sweet. Sweet would not be at all what I was looking for.

Is 20 to high for a finishing spec grav?

There was an added benefit of the glass Carboy's - they were free! A friend of mine used to homebrew and hasn't done it for a couple of years, so he gave me a bunch of stuff including the carboys and a wort chiller. This last batch was the first time I used a wort chiller as well, and wow is it bett...

Through the looking glass

I know there are differing opinions on glass carboys, seems some like them and some think they aren't worth the trouble. I just put a batch in one for the first time this weekend and it is churning away. I think it is very cool to see - and helps, ever so slightly, with the long wait till it's done!...

Wisconsin Trip

Did anything ever come of that? Do you need some money yet Dave?

I'm still in if it's on. (Bret)

MMMmmmmmm IPA. I have a couple left from my recent trip to WI - I will try to refrain from drinking them tonight. If you ahven't had it, I really like the "Hearty Hops" form New Glarus.

The guy at JT Whnitneys I spoke with was kinda like chukkling - as in - "you think you are going to get tickets for that without waiting in line for hours?"

Sounds to me like they need a bigger venue... or, even better, an Iowa version.

I'll be in Madison on Monday - my hotel is close to J.T. Whitney's.
I am willing to bring some back if someone is sure they want them.

I may also lay in a large suppy of IPA from the New Glarus Brewery - mmm mmm.

I meant to make it to this meeting - but stuff came up. Sometimes "stuff" is such a pain in the ass.

I'm still hoping to make it to the next one - baring more "stuff".
