Re: Nov 4 - AHA Learn to Homebrew Day

During the 2nd or 3rd year I was in Phoenix, they had the first 100 degree day about 6 weeks early (I think it was the first week of March). That year they had 180 days above 100 degrees; 150 days above 105 degrees; and 120 days above 110. Ouch. Yeah. Well in Coggon a couple of years back it hit at...

Re: Nov 4 - AHA Learn to Homebrew Day

And the weather was bad for Tucson today. It was only partly sunny and 82°F. Don't worry, it will hit 115 before you know it. One of the nicer things about Tucson versus Phoenix is that generally it's about 7 to 10 degrees cooler here. Not to say that they don't, on occasion, get up to 115°F but it...

Re: Nov 4 - AHA Learn to Homebrew Day

Despite the less than optimal weather and the fire alarm going off inside the Market (not caused by us!!), it turned out to be a good day for the Beer Nuts. We had a few folks that were very interested in learning about beer brewing. Met a nice lady, who's a brewer, who we hope to see again at the ...

Heh. Cool. Thanks. I was actually aware that Mr. Beer originated there, but I will forgive them for that! ;) Muntons owns them now.

Re: Homemade PBW recipe

Finish powerballs rock. Honestly in my dishwasher I've tried them side by side with just about everything else and there is no comparison. The suggestion of 7th generation laundry detergent is good, their unscented dish washing detergent is good too. (Though Dawn clear is out now and that is even be...

Re: Nov 4 - AHA Learn to Homebrew Day

I think you guys need to set something up. An extract brew or something. Post some pictures on Facebook. Newbo if they let you would be good, probably of any public place that would likely allow you to do it at all that could be the best. Lion's Bridge is okay, but showing EVERYONE who might be inte...

Re: Chugger Pump Seizes

Eric, I should hit you up for a couple of those washers, too before I disappear forever to the desert! Mine has about 15 brews on it and it's already starting to look worn.. Which I am amazed by because it's made of PTFE (Teflon)... Don't know if I will still be around at the next meeting time thoug...

Re: Homemade PBW recipe

Unfortunately, PBW is likely 65-70% Sodium Percarbonate and 30% Sodium Metasilicate (which is even more reactive and is for sure according to the MSDS). I think your brew bucket guys must be in bed with Five Star. PBW is so not special it's not even funny. There is a surfactant in the mix as well (l...

Re: Cheap Kits - Happy Columbus Day

This will be the only time I haven't taken advantage of that in three years. It's tempting though as I will have to brew on the kitchen stove likely for about a year in the rental in AZ. The cost of those kits, by the way are about the cheapest way of getting LME as I've ever seen. More than one has...

Re: Thanks for a great time guys!

Thanks everyone. Once you go 1500 miles, you consider trashing everything before the move. I do have 20K lbs on Raytheon, so hopefully we will be under. I'm also going to go loaded with my little 5x8' trailer on the Jeep Patriot, but I have to keep that under 1000 lbs (with the trailer). The brewing...

Thanks for a great time guys!

Well, I am sorry to have kept this from everyone, but I had to make it past the Rockwell Collins end of FY'17. 19 years, 10 months and 2 days later. It's been a damned good run! I turned in my notice today at Rockwell Collins. I had a job find me (I wasn't really looking) and it was an offer I could...

Re: 2017 Beer Nuts Homebrew Festival Planning

So if I can successfully back sweeten my hard cider tonight, can I and should I still bring it? Or is it too late? I'm sorry about my lack of ability to bring anything good this year. I have a really good excuse but I can't say what it is quite yet. I will help out as much as I can tomorrow to make ...

Re: 2017 Beer Nuts Homebrew Festival Planning

So.. I have been like as busy as I have ever been in my whole life since Homebrewcon and I have not brewed. I have a cider that might be ready by Sunday that has been aging from before then.. I'll probably know by Thursday if it's good. I will serve it still because I'm still out of CO2, but I will ...
