Got a wild hair and went down to Red's for the first time this afternoon. In a word - AWESOME! Started with the Goose Island Nero, followed by Bells Expedition Stout, and by that point, it was Happy Hour, so I transitioned to the Rogue Wet Hopped Ale that they tapped while I was there.
Met Kyle, their Beer Guy. He's a beginning homebrewer (about 6 batches). He'd heard about us, but hadn't met any of us before (shame on you guys who have been going there awhile!!) Intro'ed myself and gave him a Beer Nuts card. Unfortunately, he can't make the meeting this week, but expect to see him on the blog and at a future meeting. Real nice guy and way into good beers!
On the real "news" side of our conversation - he was able to get another keg of Hop Slam!!! It should be on tap soon. He was also able to get a case of the Mikeller 1000 IBU if folks want to sample that in bottles.
At the end of March, they will be doing a Bells Beer dinner. Details to follow on tickets, etc.

I moved to CR in June from North Liberty. The thing I miss the most from living there is definitely Red's. Their beer selection is constantly changing too. I don't know if you had any of their food, but as far as bar food goes, its very good. I went down for the initial Hopslam tapping, and got some of the Batch 10k there too. Man, now I need to go again!

Thanks for the heads up Tony, actually Bill (ex brewer at Millstream) from Johns has lots to do with the lineup of brew at Reds, he just lives a block away and pushes a lot of those beers.
Little pricey up at Reds, but pretty cool spot. Too bad the 2 for 1 never is any of the really good beers on tap.

Red's Ale House
Little correction, Bill was instrumental in getting some great beers into Red’s initially but they have been pretty much doing it themselves for the last 4-6 month. Bill is now working for BJ Rest & Brew in Reno. He moved out there several months ago and enjoys brewing again. I actually don’t think the prices are that bad compared to Des Moines or even Lava Lounge who have similar beers on tap.
