New water spreadsheet

Post by carrisr »

For those who are into treating or customizing their water like I am, check this out. Martin Brungard has just published an extensive new water treatment spreadsheet. It's based on data he has collected, data from A.J. DeLange, and Kai Troester and may prove to be the most accurate tool currently available.

You can download it for free here: https://sites.google.com/site/brunwater/. It's a bit more complicated than the EZ Water Calc 2.0 that I demoed at a recent tech meeting. However, it will probably prove more useful in learning what factors effect mash pH. He includes some pretty good instructions and water background as well.

He's taking donations by PayPal if you want to pitch in, and he's also collecting people's real-world results with the goal of further improving our understanding of brewing water dynamics.

After I get a few brews under my belt using this tool I'd be happy to do another water tech meeting if anyone is interested. I'd also be willing to get together over a beer if anyone wants to learn more. I plan to get a pH meter soon so I can test the results.
