NB was out of licorice? So question, do we need the licorice? The beer is going to pick up some nice bourbon and oak flavors in the barrel and may mask the licorice anyway. Thoughts? Otherwise I'll need to order some licorice tomorrow from Midwest.

I ordered everything from Midwest, it was cheaper than NB.

Did Midwest have the licorice? And to answer and earlier question, I already have some 1056 so no yeast for me.

Never mind my last post. Just saw the licorice on the order form. Thanks again Jim. Let us know when it comes in so we can arrange to pick it up. May be a good reason to grab a beer at Thirdbase.

Yes, Midwest had everything we needed & was cheaper than NB. Midwest doesn't charge to grind grain, unlike NB, so I had them do that too since we will be using it right away. Ok the tally stands as follows

BrewHound – 10 gallons
johnnyik - 5 gallons
Matt F - 5 to 10 gallons
Jim F - 5 gallons
bkanderson - ?
Tom B - 7-8 gallons
semanticdm - 5 gallons (extract)
Logan.Orcutt - 5 gallons (extract)
kurtford - 5 gallons
kjball - 5 gallons
DrPulsen – 20 gallons
Karl&Jim – 10 gallons

which is a grand total of 88 gallons.

Yes I would like everyone who put "if needed" to brew for this if possible. With fresh barrels it will not take long for them to pick up the flavors. What I would like to do is have as much as possible brewed. This will make it easier for people to take back some intially for personal consumption and for events this year. We will keg the rest and as we pull some out, then we will have left overs to top off with and even blend if the oak is stronger then we would like. I have plenty of extra kegs if needed by anyone. So if you still want to brew for this and see the number is exceeded please don't worry and you are welcome to brew and commit to the barrel. The more blendings the better with these things. It gives a much more well rounded brew with nice complexity.

Also, I just wanted to make sure that the dates we are going with work for everyone. I don't want to push back the date, more then a week or two and even then I would rather do it only if we have to. I am trying to keep the barrels sound by keeping them cold in my work room. So I have the window open in there. When the whether warms that will no longer be a sound method for preserving the barrels.

I hate to do this, but I need to withdraw my offer of 5 gallons. I'm going to mooch off of, er, 'help' DrPaulsen with his batches.

I am planning to help Lee, and fermenting 10 gallons from him. Therefore will not be making 5 gallons of my own

You can put me in as backup if you need anymore, I could do 5 gal. Otherwise It looks like your fairly covered. I also think I’m going to be out of town the weekend your putting this all together so I was on the fence if I was jumping on this.

I would be able to brew this over the summer to use as replacement for draws off the barrel. But for now, my fermentation space and brewing time is spoken for making beer for my brother's wedding.

The order from Midwest is in. I'm busy tonight with my bowling league, but if you want to get together tomorrow night or Saturday to divide it up at my house and have a beer or two, that would be great. I've already split up the Flaked Oats, since the bag had burst in shipping...

If you can't right away, that isn't a problem either. I won't be brewing until the Millstream grain order comes in anyway.

Jim, sounds great! I forgot, did you order any 2-row or were you waiting for the spring grain order for this? I don't have any base grain and need 4lb to mash the flaked grains with. I can get together tomorrow night but will be fairly busy on Saturday. If Friday night works, let me know your address and a good time for you.

I can't Friday and will need to check on Saturday. I will verify how much flaked barley I have and can bring you guys what you need for that.

John, I have plenty of 2-row and could get you 4 lbs. so you can brew soon. I don't recall when the grain order comes in.

Friday night it is, I should be home no later than 5:30. My address is 314 Brentwood Dr NE. It is only a few blocks from 3rd Base. My cell is 319-651-6191 if you need to get in touch with me.

I didn't order any 2-row, because I was waiting for the spring grain order. I also didn't order the flaked barley because Matt said he had enough to cover us.
