Annual Beer Fest @ Benz

Post by tony b »

Benz has posted the date for the annual beer tasting. It will be Saturday, May 14th, 1-5PM.

So, we need to start getting ready folks. It's only 2 months away!!!

I have brewed a Czech Pils for this event and given we should have our new tap box on display by then, I'd rather keg it (vice TAD or bottle). Could I borrow a keg from someone to transfer it to after it's done lagering in the secondary? I would like to transfer it either this weekend or next. (I'll need the carboys for my Marzen in a couple of weeks.)

Also, given it's a lager, does it hurt it if I can't store it in the fridge once kegged? It would be kept at basement temperatures.

From my understanding (not an expert, never even made a lager). Lagers do not need to be stored at fridge temps once the lagering process has been complete. As long as you have have completed the processes. Fermenting, Lagering, and Storage. You should be fine storing it at cellar temps.

I would concur. Lagers kept at cellar temps should remain delicious!

OK, Here's what I have on tap currently:
Simcoe IPA
Porter
Coffee Porter
German Hefe
German alt
Belgian Dubbel

What should I set aside for the fest? I would be happy to contribute whatever needs to be represented. I will probably bring a few with me as I need kegs emptied, but dont want to bring an IPA if we have 3 IPA's coming already.

I am bringing either a IIPA or a BGSA. Both are ready to keg now. I would think both will still be good come Benz time.

So what's this crazy assed beer you be bringing, Tom?

Pottsie, I'll hook up with you for the keg. Now with the official tap box going, I will start shopping for one of my own, just for club beers.

So what is an acceptable donation for this in terms of quantity? I didn't really plan for this and am not sure what I will have mid-may and how much. I might have a 1/2 keg of a modified Gumball Head clone still around that time.

I guess just as important, what is the club's goal for how much and how many styles of beer, based on the previous years' events?

The coffee Porter went over well at the IFOB, but I don't want to be branded a one-trick-pony. I could whip up a Bavarian Weise in time with no problem, but will need to know if you're counting on that by mid April. Hobo, as far as I know, any contribution is acceptable. Is there a gallon limit on this event?

I have a couple empty kegs as well, if anyone wants to borrow one for the brewfest.  Sadly, my brewing lately means I only have empty, not full, kegs.

There's no real limit on min/max you want to bring. A few bottles to 5 gallons is normal. I think last year we went through 60-70 gallons.

M'shugga is my Lagunitas Brown Sugga inspired beer. Pale malt, Munich, C60, brown sugar, lots'o'hops. The hops have died down, but it's still a nice beer.

I have a pale ale and hefeweizen right now. Brewing a Maple brown ale but may want to keep that one for myself. Either way I will bring at least one keg for the event. I know I cannot be there until after the event starts but should be able to help with clean up and can deliver my keg to someone in advance.

Exact count last year was 55 gallons, with twelve taps that leaves room to serve one more keg for 60
