Great Taste of the Midwest in Madison, WI

Post by Matt F »

The Great Taste of the Midwest is August 9th at noon this year. Tickets are $35 and very hard to get.

You can also try to get on the bus trip from Millstream. http://www.millstreambrewing.com/events.html

Ticket Sales

Tickets for the 2008 Great Taste are $35 each.

There are two ways to obtain tickets for the Great Taste of the Midwest: mail order or advance in person sales. Tickets are NOT sold at the gate. There are no phone orders, no credit card orders, and no internet sales. In order to keep this a high quality event, only 5000 tickets are sold.

In Person Ticket Sales:
In person ticket sales for the August 9th, 2008, festival will be held at noon on Sunday, May 4th, 2008. A total of 3000 tickets will be sold at the following Madison locations:

Star Liquor
The Cork and Bottle
The Wine and Hop Shop
Steve's Liquor (both locations)
J.T. Whitney's
Capital Brewery

Wonder's Pub, a longtime ticket sales location, has been sold, and we will no longer be holding ticket sales there.

In person ticket sales sell out very quickly. If you aren't in line early, chances are good that you will not get a ticket. There is a limit of four tickets per person.

Mail Order Sales:
2000 Tickets will be sold via mail order using a lottery. There is a limit of four tickets per household. If you do not live in Madison and would like to participate in the lottery, please send a self addressed stamped envelope and a check for the correct amount (payable to MHTG) to:

Great Taste!
Madison Homebrewers and Tasters Guild
P.O. Box 1365
Madison, WI 53701-1365

Envelopes must be postmarked on May 1st. Orders sent postmarks other than May 1st will be returned to you unfulfilled. Please allow 6-8 weeks for ticket processing, since we are a homebrewing club and not a professional order fulfillment company. We know you want your tickets, but please respect that we have our own family and work responsibilities too.

Anybody going to try to get tickets? If you are trying by mail, they must be post-marked this Thursday, May 1. I may try to send in for some. I will probably order four in case I actually get them. They usually are not too hard to get rid of if you have extra.

I am going to try to get 4. Seriously doubt from what I have heard that I will, but hey why not. If I don't they just don't cash the check!

Oh by the way. I emailed Teressa at Millstream. The bus is full :-( and has been for some time now.

If anyone knows someone in Madison who could get me a couple of tickets I would be glad to pay for the tickets plus a nice bottle of Belgian ale for their troubles, just throwing it out there.

I have a buddy in Madison, but I don't know if he will be in town that weekend. We have a bachelor party in Davenport Saturday, so he would have to get back to Madison in time to get tickets. I will give him a call to see what he might do. Otherwise, yeah, I plan to send in my request today but it is a crap shoot to get tickets. Maybe if enough of us send in somebody will get some. On that note, if somebody does get tickets and they have an extra, I am interested.

I'll be in Madison on Monday - my hotel is close to J.T. Whitney's.
I am willing to bring some back if someone is sure they want them.

I may also lay in a large suppy of IPA from the New Glarus Brewery - mmm mmm.

I am sure that I would want some (at least 2), even if by some chance that I do get some in the lottery, I have plenty of friends that would like to go.

I figured they would be. I heard they are usually gone on Sunday within a few hours and people are left wating in line that never get tickets. It is a great party. There are beers served at that event that you can't get anywhere else. They even have an all cask tent.

The guy at JT Whnitneys I spoke with was kinda like chukkling - as in - "you think you are going to get tickets for that without waiting in line for hours?"

Sounds to me like they need a bigger venue... or, even better, an Iowa version.

Looks like I got tickets in the Lottery (4). Bet you all want to be my friend now. Just looked at my bank statement and saw that my check to "MHTG" had been cashed.

Bring on the beer. Let'em know to hide their daughters!

:-)

Wish I could go Jeremy but our family is headed out on a vacation for a week starting August 9th. Unfortunately for me, it was the only time this summer that fit the schedule. Have fun at the fest. It is one of the best!
