May Tech Meeting - May 4th, 2011

Post by BrewHound »

Hey all,

Well my dumb ass has done it again, let things sneak up on me. Tomorrow is tech meeting and we are going to go ahead if our host this month is still willing.

Rick Young has offered to bring a varity of ciders for sampling. If you are are into ciders here is your chance. Rick is big into ciders and enters many competitions for ciders, so he is going to treat us to a cider sampling and hopefully some pointers for making award winning ciders.

Rick, are you still willing to participate in a cider tasting tomorrow?

I don't have your number, so if you could sign in it would be greatly appeciated.

Sorry about being slack again, I really thought it was next week until I lrealized today that it is already May.

As usual the meeting will be at my home in the basement at 8PM.

Tthanks
Jeremy

Missed It

Post by woodze13 »

I was wondering why there was not an announcement for the may tech meeting. Turns out I just got off the forum too early on Tuesday and didn't get on again till today. Oh well, brewed up an IIPA last night instead.

This is not your fault it was mine, we did not have it as I posted this too late and appoligize to all. I have 3 projects going at home and work SUCKS these days.

I am truely sorry to all and I am trying to get my head screwed on straight and get back on top of my life. On the upside, one of my projects that has been taking all of my time when not at work is almost done. It is a ferementation control rig, which is way over the top of what it needs to be. I am planning a new 20 gal electric system build with a fat control box like the one at theelectricbrewery.com. This is kind of a proof of concept type thing, to see if I can build without electricuting myself. So far so good. Will post pics sometime or might save it for display when I can organize the next tech meeting.

Now to get back on topic, we skipped last months tech meeting, so I still want to do this months, I think I will be out of town for the date in June so either we have to cancel or someone else has to host.

Rick could you send me your phone number via PM so we can discuss an alternate evening for you to put on the "cider show". I love cider and so do a lot of other people in the club, so I would like make this one happen for the membership.

Obviously I missed the May Tech meeting... I have to drink more good beer I think I read somewhere hops improve memory. Mark me down for the June meeting... June 2nd I believe is the date.

I have a short presentation on how to make cider, followed by about 20 - 25 different samples of ciders I made and from some commercial producers around the USA. Still, Semi-sweet, Sweet, Fruit, Good, Bad, Barnyard, etc.

Not if I want to stay married... June 1 is my wedding anniversary, and I suppose my wife would rather spend it out for a nice dinner than a CRBeernuts Tech meeting. She really needs to prioritize!

I can do it May 26, June 2, June 6, June 9...

For what it's worth, I vote for June 9. I'm going to be out of town May 29 through June 4 and would love to attend your Cider Tech meeting.

Hardcider Tech Meeting June 9th

Post by RickYoung001 »

So, it appears June 9th is the next Tech Meeting. I will host it at my house (Mt Vernon) in my driveway/garage if it does not rain (Jeremy can you be the rain backup meeting place?) If more than 5 people show up my house will be in trouble trying to host it.

As noted before... I have right now about 20+ ciders we can sample (good, bad, ugly... dry to sweet to fruit). After a short presentation/handout on how to make a hardcider we can sample some different styles/flavors.

If anyone wants to bring a cider (home fermented or commercial) feel free to do so. Here is what I have so far:

Sutliff Cider
Cider Jack
Fox Barrel
Hardcore
Spire Mountain
Tieton
Blue Mountain
Red Barn
CiderWorks
Rick Young
Strongbow

Sorry about the delay, I have been trying to reconcile this with the change in date, I am going to be out of town for some of that week, then the following week is NHC and I will be out of town the whole week. I have been talking to the wife trying to nail down my plans for the week of June 5th - 11th. Had to juggle things around a bit to be home on the 9th, but it is done, I will be around on the 9th.

As for the 5 guests, how big a problem is that going to be? I have snooped around asking who would be interested in attending and there are over 5 from my probing. I can be the rain backup, not a problem. We have several people in the club who really love the ciders, even though I can't make one worth a $hit, I love them, noth'in better on a hot summer day.

Anyway if you have any problems with execution of the tech meeting please let me know and I will do what I can to assist. Thank you again for hosting this meeting.
