Dry hopping while carbing

Post by kjball »

Has anyone dry hopped and Carbonated at the same time? I'm going to dry hop in the keg and thought I could save some time by Carbing at the same time. Is there any reason to not do this?

The Dumb Bastard I brought to Benz was force carbonated for three days at a high pressure with 2 oz. of chinook in a hop bag in the keg. I have another keg of the same beer in my fridge right now where I did the same thing. Tossed a 2 oz. bag of chinook in a hop sack in to the keg and force carbonated it. I am very happy with the results. Turned out to be pretty good after a week or two. Was a little young still at Benz.

Thanks. I couldn't see why it would be a bad thing, but wanted to check with the group in case anyone had more info.

I don't know if Matt did, but you might want to suspend the bag. I think DaveCo had an issue with the bag getting stuck in the dip tube.

I just tossed the bag in. No issues with clogs after a keg and a half. I like to let my bag be free.

I just toss the hop bag in at kegging time. I don't suspend it. It makes a nice filter bed, and assures that all of your beer is being filtered through hops.

Just be careful about opening a carbonated keg. I had one that had warmed up and for some reason I decided to open it. It turned into a beer volcano. That was ugly.
