September

Post by carrisr »

The topic of making cheese was proposed at the August meeting and those in attendance seemed very interested. This would be a bit of a departure from beer, but since many cheeses pair well with beer I think we can do this. If anyone has a problem with this as a topic and has an alternative, speak now.

To make this work we need a few things: a person so speak and demonstrate, and a place to do this. I think it would be fun, if practical, to actually make some cheese. So the we'd likely need access to a kitchen at the host's house, preferably with enough room for 8 or so people. We're also thinking about doing this topic on a Saturday afternoon so we have more time. I'm proposing either 9/3 (day before Ia Fest O'Beers), or 9/17. I will be out o town on the 10th.

Thoughts and volunteers?

It looks like we're going to need to table this one since no one is stepping up. End of August and September is looking like a busy month for most people with all the beer events and travelling.

Still, I'd like to give this a try, so if anyone can help put this together it would be great. Otherwise we're open to ideas for October. Lee mentioned maybe doing a cider apple-pressing demo? Other ideas/suggestions welcome!

Too bad there's no way i can fit 8 ppl in my kitchen. I made a ton of cheese in the past week. I will post a tutorial on homebrewtalk and post a link here for those interested.

My hbt screenname is "azurecybe". I have some pics on there of the finished product if anyone is interested.
