Pump Remote Control

Post by Matt F »

I borrowed an idea from a guy's setup that was on Brewing TV. I bought a remote to turn an outlet on and off. You can find them at any hardware store right now as they are marketed for Christmas tree lights. I picked one up at Menards. It is very convenient for turning the pump on and off from where ever you may be standing.

It is very covienent to do it this way, you can wire the pump through any form of switch to acomplish this, I have seen a lot that are done using a light switch mounted on the stand.

That's exactly what I did, purchased an outdoor switch housing (which has a plastic cover over the actual switch to keep it waterproof) and mounted it near my pump on the stand. It works well on my set up as I am right near the pump when I am adjusting the flow or doing run off to the kettle.

I think a remote control switch is a cool idea, especially if you only have one or two things to switch and don't need a dedicated control box. I wired up a double-pole switch to an outlet to run two pumps from my control panel. It's working so far for me.

I wonder if you could use one of those remote switches as a kill switch in case something goes terribly wrong?

This is the one I have.

They had another one that had three separate on/off outlets. Not sure what kind of load they can handle.

I've been thinking about getting a foot operated switch for my pump for sometime now. I'm leaning toward this one http://www.amazon.com/MLCS-9089-Switch- ... pd_sim_hi5
