3 guys want to watch someone brew all-grain

Post by Gjoseph »

We met tonight and realized we need to watch someone brew so we can take notes and figure out what we really need for equipment. Anyone brewing soon and wants to teach two new recruits to the club and a long time extract brewer?

I will not be brewing this weekend, but I'll probably brew the following one, the 5th or 6th. If that would work let me know and we can work out what day/time. My setup is pretty basic and cheap/easy to get started with. From there you can upgrade a lot of different ways if you choose to later.

Another option, if you can wait that long: We could do the January Tech meeting on basic all-grain. I know there are a few others who are considering the switch too. We wouldn't be able to do an actual brew session though unless we moved the meeting to the weekend. If there is enough interest in that we could do it.

I will mention both options, I am thinking the 5th or 6th is definately a possibility and even if we couldn't hold off until Jan we could probably still benifit from a tech meeting regarding any questions we may have encountered. I will let you know what works and get back to you.

I am toying with the idea of doing a couple small "research" batches on the stove top the second weekend in November using a simple set up consisting of a 5 gallon cooler with a SS braid as a mash tun and my old 5 gallon stock pot. This is probably about as easy as it gets. If you are interested I can post once I finalize the date and you are more than welcome to come watch. This would probably be the best situtation for someone wanting to learn the process. When I do 10 gallon batches on my two tier system in the garage I'm pretty heads-down and focused on what I am doing and would likely be less attentative to Q&A.

I had mentioned that before but I am not available that weekend. Here is the link to the AHA info. We should try to get something more formal together for this. We once participated with three different people including myself brewing in BA's garage. It was a good time.

At least one of the other guys can do the 6th. The 5th is out mainly because of the 11 am Iowa game against Michigan. So if the 6th is an option you would have at least 2 that would be interested. If you do decide to brew on the 6th let me know.

OK let's do it. What time can you guys be here? I'd prefer not to start much later than noon as my brew days tend to run aorund 4 hours.

If anyone else wants to learn all-grain or even getting started you are welcome. I know it's a day aafter the AHA day, but oh well.

Noon sounds good, we will see if we can't get there a little earlier.

Thanks!
