Absentee ballot?

Post by kjball »

Are we doing absentee balloting? I have a parent/teacher conference for my daughter tomorrow evening. I won't be able to be there for the voting, but will be there for the meeting.

I'm going to make this simple, here's my ballot, (I really don't care if anyone else sees this.) I'm voting for the people that are on the ballot.

Absentee ballot?

Post by JimPotts »

Travis can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think what we're planning on is to have a motion to dispense with balloting, and elect everyone as a group via voice vote. (This is a pretty common procedure if everyone is running unopposed.)  If the motion fails, or if the voice vote is uncertain (or doesn't pass) we'll break out paper ballots, and allow for absentees on another day.

Obviously, we're not expecting any contention, which is why we aren't bothering with the absentee voting up front.  Hopefully, we won't be proven wrong.

What are we doing any kind of voting for, all positions contain a single candidate, therefore they carry the positions unopposed correct?

I see that Tim made an error and put me on a posting he made today, but I have already withdrawn from consideration for the position in several threads. I tryed to correct this by posting however, it specifies it requires special privledges to post, so could someone correct this form me, thank you.

Yeah, that's what I get for cutting and pasting the first set of meeting notes. I will correct that now.

I think the only reason for the up down vote is to make sure there is no serious objection from the group for any candidate. I assume (and seriously hope) this will be a formality. But, since we do have a democratically elected cabinet, we felt it appropriate to allow for the membership to voice a concern with any candidate. As I recall from the cabinet meeting, it will not be an up down vote for each position. Instead, there will be one voice call for all positions. Assuming that passes, there will be no more voting.

Is this still going to take place at 6:30? or are we just going to do it as part of the regular meeting now?

It is currently still 6:30 for speeches. But I don't think we are actually voting until right before the meeting starts. With no actual voting going on, it seems like a pointless waste of wing eating time.

Absentee ballot?

Post by Mr T »

Yes, please show up a little early this evening to get a chance to hear from the proposed 2012 Cabinet group as they will speak briefly about their goals for 2012. We’ll take a quick breather after that for folks to ask questions of the cab either as a group or in person.. then I’ll conduct the normal meeting notes.

I will be at work for a while yet and won't make it in time for speeches and what not. I know each candidate well and they have my support. Wish I could be there for the speeches.
