January meeting details

Post by kjball »

OK, We're all set to have the January meeting at Bricks. There is no Theatre that night. There are a few things that we will need to adapt to in order to have meetings in public places.

1. This is going to have the most impact. We will not be able to bring commercial beers to these places. We will still be able to bring commercial bottles to the Longbranch. We hope to make up for this by having private tasting events more often, probably on weekends. Remember, these plaes will have beer for purchase, so nobody should go thirsty.

2. No outside food. There will be food available at most of the places that we meet. That brigs me to #3

3. Please be considerate and supportive of our host sites. These businesses are letting us use their facilities for no charge. Please don't make them rescind the offer. Segue to #4

4. Boundary Water rules apply. Meaning, if you bring it with you, take it home. that includes bottles, trash, and anything else that might tag along in your cooler.

These may take some getting used to, but being in public is good for the club. We also hope to make the actual business portion of the meeting flow more smoothly, so we will plan to start the business portion at 7:30. Most months, we''ll be done by 8.

Agenda for 1/19/12
1: New rules for public meetings. (see above, you will have a chance to ask questions and voice concerns)

2: Pay your dues. Jim will be present to collect money.

3: Grain order update from Tom Burns

4: Club Competitions

5: Nick from Backpocket will be present to discuss details of the Jan 28 event.

5: Events for the year
A: Beer fests
B: Big Brew Day
C: Venues
D:Private Tastings

If you have anything you want to add to the agenda, post it here, please.

Bad people drink bad beer. You don't usually see an empty bottle of Rochefort tossed onto the side of the road

This is a great venture. There is no down side to any of the rules. Sure I'll miss some of Dave's beers, but it would be nice to try everyone's homebrew without the worry of missing something unique. This might even get the "social" meeting under control enough to actually give quality feedback for people's beer.

I also want to make it perfectly clear that homebrews are welcome at all sites.

Has the meeting date been moved up a week to 1/12? Or is it still 1/19?

Good catch, John, The meeting is the 19th. I should've said, 1/2012.

In order to reduce confusion, all please ensure that you remove any commerical labels from your "Homebrew", so that they are not mistaken for commercial beers as many of us "rebrew" in commercial bottles.

Good idea.

Also, I think the change in commercial beer at meetings should generate more tastings in the club, including club organized tastings (for club members). Look for more to come on this.

320 2nd Ave SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52401

There's some street parking on the blocks around there. There's also a City Permit lot that is open to the public after 6pm right next to Bricks. Finally, across the street and up half a block (just across the railroad tracks) is the Art Museum parking lot that is also open to the public.

Hey Jason, John and I met the Boulevard Brewing rep (Fleck Sales) and he said to let him know when the meetings are and he would try to show up - his tag line was hey worst case you get some free beer :) Any objections to sending him to Bricks on Thursday?
