Need Corny Kegs?

Post by -MG- »

I recently put an add on craiglists looking for kegs. Well I got a response from a guy who was clearing out an old pepsi warehosue (ball locks) and sold me 13 kegs, some of them still hold pressure and a have dirt on the outside. As far as I can see none of them have really any dents in them that would compromise them.

I am keeping a few, but certainly don't need 13 of them. I would be willing to sell a couple to those who need them. They would be dirty and we can do some a couple of things to test pressure together if any one is interested.

Let me know. I will be at the next meeting.

Sounds similar to the guy that sold me 12 old cornies for $10 each about 9 years ago. Are they the old style with single hard plastic handle? I like those but the beverage out tube is a two-piece design and sometimes does not seal well internally which causes foaming in the beer. Suppose one could seal the tube somehow. My couple that give me trouble just go largely unused, store starsan, or are used as a secondary when dry hopping.

They appear to be the normal version you see online. All have two rubber handles. I haven't inspected them all yet. Just trying to figure out how many I really need to have. I feel like I'm starting to turn into a hoarder when it comes to brewing supplies.

I'm considering starting to use sanke kegs to pressure ferment in. Been reading on that and seems like a really cool idea.

If it is made of stainless steel than it is not hoarding.

You can never have too many cornies. I may be interested depending on price. Can't ignore a good deal on cornies these days. I have thought of popping out the dip tube on a sanke to use as a fermenter with a large bung and airlock. I still like watching my yeast in glass though.

I'd take 1 or two if the price is right.

After looking through what I have and need. I think I can sell 4 more of these (Brownbeard already claimed a few).

They will need some elbow grease to get the dirt from the outside and may need a new ring on it. I think $20/each would be fair. Let me know if still interested.

This is all pending that none of them have any pressurization problems. I don't believe they will as nothing indicates to me that I should expect that.

I'm in for one as well. If you want to bring it to the meeting on Thursday I can pay you then or if you'd rather we pick them up later, that's cool.

Based on first responses that wanted a keg. Here is who gets one:

Brewhound
Johnnyik
Carrisr
Reebekili

(Matt F, they beat you to the punch about asking about them)

You and Reebekili can fight it out for that last one.

I am certainly more abundant in kegs then Matt, so if the other three are taking the kegs, please sell the one you have designated for me on the list to Matt, still interested however, if the above people do not all take one.
