Bad people drink bad beer. You don't usually see an empty bottle of Rochefort tossed onto the side of the road

All of the spots are full, sorry! I do still have the 3 alternate spots. No registration fee, you get to attend the competition free, and you can bring your beer for people to enjoy. Should anyone drop out, move away, accidentally drink all of their submission...you get to step up. More info at the counter at the shop, the forms are there behind the high end cigar humidor.

I had a voice mail message last night from Hy Vee saying something to the effect of " . . . your bottles are here ready for you . . . " ???

They are providing a swing-top bottle for your to put your beer in for me (sorry, I meant whomever wins). Each brewer provides a beer to go to the winner of the competition. This year Hy-vee is providing a nice swing-top for us, you just need to stop in and pick it up.

I have my bottle already but see no reason to fill it...since I will just be taking it home with me anyway.

I misunderstood. I thought those were for judging.

Yeah, the bottle is to fill for the winner to take home. I understood that we can just bring a keg to this one and pour a draft in the glasses for judging. That is how they did it in Waterloo and that was nice not having to mess with bottles.

Wayne, I was curious what the section at the bottom of the score sheet that said "people's choice bonus points." it was numbered 4, 6, 8, 10. Was that in regards to people's choice placement? or something else?

Matt Franklin with 2nd Place

Tim Sines with 3rd Place - always the Bridesmaid!

The 6 8 10 at the bottom represented the number of points the brewer got for placing in peoples choice. 1st place was 10 points, 2nd 8 points, 3rd 6 points.

thanks everyone who came out, i hope you all had as great a time as we did!!!

I got my four score sheets. It appears I did not get any of the people's choice points. On a 0-60 scale I got a 60, 55, 52 and 40. One judge said overcarbonated while another said it was under carbonated. After pouring to a glass and then from a glass to sample cups, I am not surprised. My favorite comment was "Good God Damned Beer". The judges did a nice job. I felt the best beer won which is what you want to happen. It was a really nice English Brown Ale with just the right amount of roast character that I enjoy in a brown.

Overall it was a lot of fun and I will do it again. I thought all the beers were good. I didn't have one that I needed to pour out. I am curious how mine will taste in a few months as it is still young for a scotch ale.
