Hub City RIP?

Post by TappedOut »

Rumors on the Rockwell message board that Hub City is in foreclosure. Nice folks, decent, if not notable beer, but way over-expanded. Anyone else heard anything?

I can verify that rumor. It is true.

Bad people drink bad beer. You don't usually see an empty bottle of Rochefort tossed onto the side of the road

Anybody want to buy a brewery? You know, getting the equipment and building a brewing co-op would be kind of interesting. I remember last years NHC host in Madison was doing something similar. All the coop members pay a yearly fee and get a case or two of the monthly brew. Just babbling.

Sounds like a good time for anyone seriously considering going pro. I'm sure the bank will want some money for the brand, but if you can negotiate that out, I bet it can all be had for a good price. I think that would be awesome if someone/some people from the club can get their hands on this...

I've toured it, and it's a really nice facility. It's big for a start-up thought. IIRC, it's 30 bbl brewhouse and 60 bbl fermenters, all in a new building. You had better be able to sell a lot of beer to pay for that.

Didn't they buy that system when another brewery went out of business?  I seem to recall hearing that the 30 BBL brewhouse was an upgrade from their original, smaller system.  Sounds like it's financially cursed equipment to me.

I think so. They started out w/ I think a 7 bbl system in an old barn. They were having some infection issues they couldn't get rid of, and decided to take out a loan and expand and build a whole new building and brewery.

That's a big system to start with. They had a 15 barrel for a short period of time too. This is the listing on Probrewer.

3BB should buy this and open a packaging brewery, and maybe do contract brewing. If Granite City can sell on shelves so can 3BB! Yeah I know, probably not realistic. From the Pro Brewer site it looks like there's pretty strong interest so this probably won't sit long.

You think we can fit that in your pole building Randy?

It would probably work without the packaging line. Well, I also don't think I have enough height for a couple of those tanks. Not too sure if the neighbors would appreciate the grain silos you'd need to support this system...

Odd, that thread has already been removed from the site. Wonder what is going on there?

It was up there for a while and quite a few people inquired about it.  I'm sure it's sold.
