BEER CAMP 2012 on Saturday June 23

Beer Camp 2012 will be on Saturday, June 23. The same campsite as in the past has been reserved and rules and fees are the same. It is group campsite #7 at Pinicon Ridge Park near Central City, IA. It is about 20 minutes north of Cedar Rapids off Highway 13.

Check in time 3PM (no one has the camp Friday night so we can check in earlier if this remains the case)
Check-out time 1PM (must leave a clean camp site of be charged clean-up fees, this has never been an issue thus far)
Camping fee is $13 per unit; share a tent with friends and save some money. Campers and Pop-ups are allowed.

Here are some of their rules:
BEER & WINE - I understand that KEGS ARE PROHIBITED and that beer and wine are the only alcoholic beverages that may be possessed by members of my group that are 21 years of age or older.
CAMPING FEES - I understand that there is a minimum overnight camping fee for this group camp of $39.00 or $13.00/camping unit - whichever is more. Additionally, I understand that these fees shall be paid by all members of my group through the on-site campground self-registration system.
CLOSING TIME - I acknowledge that the park closes at 10:30 PM daily, and that any visitors to my group camp shall have exited the park no later than this closing time.

For those new to Beer Camp, it is open to club members, friends, family (children not prohibited, but there will be lots of heavy drinking), other brew clubs, basically anyone that is a fan of beer. The site capacity is 60 people. We have not come close to that yet. There is no water or electric hookups at the site. There is a bathroom. Bring plenty of water with. Basically, come camp, drink good beer and bring some food for yourself and something to share if you like. There are multiple grills at the camp and cooking grates on the fire pits. We hang out around the fire, drink beer, maybe play some form of night bocce, pass out, wake up, pass out again. I think you get the idea.

We have not had a formal program for food but no one has starved yet. If you plan to bring something to share, feel free to post so others can plan accordingly. Maybe something more organized than in the past will fall in to place. Basically, make sure you have yourself covered at a minimum.

Beer, of course bring lots of beer. Kegs are not allowed, growlers are best. As long as we don’t have glass bottles scattered all over the place and are in coolers and empties tucked in boxes or whatever, we have not had a problem. Basically be relatively smart and we will be OK.

The past few years many folks hitting beer camp have started the day with a float trip. This is a highly recommended way to start the day. Last year we had a canoe, some tubes and a sweet inflatable kayak. There are trip options for 6, 4, and 2 hour trips. You can rent a canoe from the park and get shuttled to where you get on the river. Price depends on how long a trip you take. So far we have shuttled ourselves for this. If you are interested in doing a float trip, post here and we will get a list going. Make sure to note how long a trip you are interested in. My participation in actually attending beer camp is up in the air this year and I likely won’t know about my personal attendance until the day before. I am out of town every weekend except beer camp and July 21 & 22 starting June 9 and ending August 4. It is a busy summer already.

Also, if you have horse shoes, bring them. There are three pits right by camp.

i havent heard of this beer camp, and its close enough i could walk almost. where exactly is campsite #7.

Check out my link to last year's beer camp. There are some good aerial photos and maps that show where it is. It is on the same side of the river as the main park, not the other side where the single site campground is. Basically, you drive through the park and keep going along the river as far as you can to the group camp sites. They are a ways back and #7 is pretty isolated.

I'm all in on this. The drinking, passing out, waking up and passing out again sounds intriguing.

I plan on doing the long float trip. I will be bringing my camper and fire work.

I am in for the Beer Camp and the float trip. However a canoe of any kind takes away from the floating experience. I'm a simple man, a life jacket is all I need as well as a beer in my hand.

We do not want to attract the wrong kind of attention. One year some idots accused us of slashing tires and we had cops visiting us off and on all night. Thankfully we had a great spokesman in Mr. Ford. It is best to remain low key.

this "beer camp" sounds remarkably like an excuse to go camping and drink good beer

That cardboard-tube "kindling" that you bring is almost as good as fireworks.

You can count on some of the cardboard-tube "kindling" as they are free form work.
