New homebrew store in Marion!

Post by semanticdm »

Last night, I was driving past the little strip mall behind the McDonalds on 1st Ave, er, 7th Ave in Marion, and a sign caught my eye: BIY Homebrew Supply. I stopped in and, despite not being open yet, the proprietor, Joe Williams, took time to talk to me and a friend of mine about his plans for the store, and his grand opening hopefully to take place on May 5th. Check out his website at http://biyhomebrewsupply.com/

Well, there's goes my idea, but, in all honesty, I was never going to get it off the ground. I really hope this is a decent shop. We badly need it.

Can someone with club cards stop by this shop and make sure they know about us. If they are going to survive they will need to really reach out to get customers, and the club is a great way to do that. Also, can someone bring cards to Big Brew? I don't have any.

So very cool. Anybody know him? We should invite him to our next meeting. We have quite a group of his target audience. I imagine if we show enough interest we can get him to carry some liquid yeast and maybe get stuff for customers on a one-off basis too.

If they have a nice selection of specialty grains and the liquid yeast I use I will be there often. If they open May 5, I will be stopping in there. I need some Hefe yeast and don't want to place an order online just for one package of yeast.

I am very excite!

I'm going to try to stop in Saturday and visit a little. I'll be running around CR/Marion all day anyway.

cool... although i find it strange that if your were opening a homebrew shop you would tap into a brew club right away as were both buyers and great viral marketing. also they could of polled us on what we would buy..etc. sorry im a marketing guy so having to contact them first blows my mind... but glad they are here.

New homebrew store in Marion!

On the other hand, it shows how much we need to continue to work to reach out to the home brewers in the community. There's a TON of brewers that have never been to a meeting. In was at 3BB today and chatted with a dude that has a "mini-club" of about 10-12 brewers. They all bring their gear together and brew on a lot of weekends. He said they often do as much as 50 gallons each time. He said he has a club b-card and has though about coming to a meeting but never has. I did my best to talk him into showing up, so hopefully he will. I also invited him to Big Brew and Benz. I think we take it for granted sometimes, and think that everyone has heard of us.

New homebrew store in Marion!

what ...another brew club?... dont they know this our turf...haha..kidding.. actually ive met alot of folks who have what you might call a mini brew club but are just a group of friends that talked each other into home brewing. much like how we got started but have taken it to the next level. they often seem less receptive to a larger club. the third train of thought i encounter is the closet brewer that has little interest in any group effort.

personally i feel the home brew club is an amazing resource to any level or type of brewer...and lots of fun thanks to the array of personalties and knowledge.

I have the box of B-cards from Brewtality. They are the white background ones, not the cooler ones with the golden beer colored background. But, it's what we gots. I will bring them to Big Brew Day.

Speaking of Promo material - did we (Kent) ever work up those posters to go in various spots about Big Brew Day? Know that Dave put us in Hoopla, but this would be a missed opportunity to market the event and our Club.
