June Tech Meeting

Post by carrisr »

The June Tech Meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 6th at DIY Homebrew Supply. This month's topic is "Bring out your Cider". For those of us who made cider at Lee's place last fall, this will be an opportunity to compare results. We can also talk back-sweetening and start thinking about our CiderFest '12.

We'll be starting at 7:30. The address is: 147 Marion Blvd #C, Marion, IA 52302. I'll bring a table and a couple of chairs, but if you are attending please bring a chair for yourself if possible as Joe doesn't have any furniture in his stock room. Of course, bring your cider too!

Lee, you going to have many apples this year? I keep hearing we lost around 80% of the Iowa apple crop to cold weather earlier this year with the northern part of the state hardest hit. How do your trees look?

Randy - ironically, I may not be able to make the Tech meeting next week.

Matt - The trees are currently loaded, but I'm told they typically drop quite a few in June. Regardless, we certainly didn't lose any due to the April freezes.

Is anyone planning on attending this meeting? So far, it looks like Randy and I, and I don't even have cider.

If I can get off work by 730, I will be there. I have a cider, but not made from Lee's apples.

I haven't done anything with my cider yet; it's still in the secondary carboy.

I want to split it into 3 batches - still, no backsweetening; still, backsweetened; and carb'ed, no backsweetening.

If I get to it over the weekend, I may have the still versions to bring, but no carb'ed ones.

I don't have any cider but I do enjoy drinking it. I'd like to come and get tips on brewing it.

I can now confirm that I will not be able to attend the cider tech meeting next week. Sorry, but I got summoned to go on a last second business trip.

So far, it seems like the only people coming do not have any cider to share. If you are planning on attending this, please post in the forum. There is really no point hosting a cider tech meeting for 4 people who do not have any cider.

I got around to bottling mine, so I'll have the 2 different versions - plain and back-sweetened to share.

To keep this somewhat interesting, if you don't have a homemade cider, bring a commercial example that you like. For example, there are about 6 or so different versions of Crispin, which could make for a good side-by-side comparison if people coordinate what they are bringing.

Also, don't forget to bring a glass. I doubt that BIY has glassware for us to borrow.
