Great minds ... Mr T.

As instigator of this chili cook-off idea, I will take the action to bring the bowls, spoons, napkins, crackers, and some cheese. Because this is a tasting, the bowls will be smaller so folks can sample as many as they'd like. I would ask that each person bringing chili to remember to bring a ladle or big spoon for serving.

As JJ posted, pale ales are a great "go with" beer for chili, especially good spicy chili. So, I throw my hat into that ring for the Category 10 beers over the Belgians.

All this chili talk is making me hungry (and thirsty). :D

What is SN Torpedo? SN should mean Sierra Nevada, but I haven't heard of a beer they make called Torpedo, nor from anyone else. Is SN actually something else? Let me know: I'm curious about what SN is and if there is a new beer out there (for me at least) to try. Is it worth buying/drinking?

It is Sierra Nevada. It is called an Extra IPA, whatever that means. I got it at benz. Right next to the Bigfoot.

It is an extra hoppy IPA. I thought it was good.

It's a typical Sierra Nevada. Full of west coast hops.

Tom, your objection to anything with "West Coast" hops even waved over the boil kettle is well known. I'm a bit surprised you've tried it.

Tom, we're pleased that you're so openminded to try beers that you know that you're probably not really going to like!! Meow!

HomeBREW chili cookoff..

Post by Mr T »

I agree... pales Cat 10, I'm not sure how belgians will compliment the chili.. but then again I've never tried.

I often use homebrew in my recipe... it would be VERY fitting to have everyone bring a chili flavored with homeBREW! or at least a commercial flavor.

I'll give away one of my chili secrets - I do use beer in my chili. I usually use a dark beer (Guinness or a porter). I soak dried chilis in it to make a "chili brew". I did try Cave Creek Chili Beer once, but it didn't do much to add any chili flavor.

This should be fun!! :D
