All:
I have been talking to Teresa at Millstream about getting a table at the Festival Of Iowa Beers. She sounded very enthusiastic about the club being there. We can discuss what we need to do at the next meeting.
Here is what she sent me so far.
Dear Brewers:
Thanks to everyone I have talked to about the Festival of Iowa Beers. Once again this will be a true showcase of what Iowa has to offer in the craft brewing sector. I am excited because this festival is very unique in the fact that only Iowa breweries and their brewers will be sampling their beers. No distributors or salespeople will be sampling their beers. Last year we had an attendance of approximately 300 people, 8 breweries and over 25 beers to sample. We have also had many requests and strong urgings for us to continue this festival. People loved the beers and the relaxed atmosphere we provided.
Our purpose for this is two-fold. First to educate the public on what Iowa has to offer by talking to the brewers and sampling some of the best craft brews available. What a great event for people, to experience Iowa beers under one tent. Secondly, to get the brewers in Iowa together for a roundtable discussion on techniques, laws, legislation, concerns and anything else that may come up. We need to pull together to form an alliance in Iowa. We can get more done as a group than as an individual.
Having said all that, I would like to invite you to attend the 2nd Annual Festival of Iowa Beers. This festival will be held Sunday, September 3rd from 1 – 5 pm. A tentative schedule is as follows:
9 – 11 am set up
11 – 1 pm brewer’s roundtable
1 – 5 pm brew fest open to public
5 – 6 pm tear down
6 - ? pm brewers gathering for those who want to stay
Admission: Admission will be $10.00. Admission will include a souvenir glass and unlimited samples from participating breweries.
Entertainment: Entertainment will be provided during the festival. Nick Stika will be preforming for us again this year.
Contest: We will be holding the valued “People’s Choice Award” again this year. As the public sample the different brews, they will also have the chance to vote for their favorite. Lost Duck’s Canvas Back Lager is the defending 2005 winner.
Door Prizes: All breweries are encouraged to donate at least one door prize for drawings.
Proceeds: Proceeds from the festival will go to help offset the cost of the festival and brewers. Any additional money raised will be donated to the juvinille arthritis foundation. This charity was chosen because it is close to my heart as one of our boys was diagnosed at 15 years of age.
Sales: Unfortunately, we will not be allowed to sell our beer only sample them. But, please feel free to bring any of your merchandise from your brewery to sell at your table. T-shirts, glasses, steins, etc…
We look forward to a wonderful festival, a lot of great beer and good companionship. Let’s build up Iowa, what fabulous craft brews we make and build up each other. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at anytime at 319-213-2024 or teresa@millstreambrewing.com
Sincerely,
Teresa Albert

All:
At the last meeting I was selected to coordinate our brew club participation at this festival. Here is what I think we still need to do.
1. Who is planning on attending? I will be there for the whole event, but I would appreciate some help. The fest is from 1pm - 5pm. Please pick a one hour block to help pour and answer questions at the booth. I will be there around 11am to setup.
2. Who can bring someghome brew for us to give away as samples. I plan on bringing a keg of hefe and maybe something else. I will bring my CO2 and splitter and taps for 4 kegs. I will also have ice and coolers to keep the kegs cold.
3. I need someone to make a banner. I have no artistic ability so I am delegating this task. Please let me know who is taking this on.
4. I will bring some grain for people to sample.
5. Matt F. could you bring some fresh hops for people check out.
6. I will bring two pads of paper. One for people that want us to contact them about the brew club and another for the teach a friend to brew event that we are going to have in November.
7. Brian said he would make 100 brochures.
8. Does anyone have a beer making vhs tape? I am going to check with Teresa to see if there will be any power and if so Brian thought it would be a good idea to have that playing while we are there.
9. Bring any homebrew ribbons for us to display.
10. Please add anything else that I may have forgot.
Thanks

Dave, thanks for setting this up. If we don't have electricity, maybe we can bring a couple battery operated DVD or tape players. I think Dave you mentioned you had a DVD of homebrewing. Were you able to find it? I have a portable 7 inch DVD player that could be used.
I will be out of town this weekend. I wish I could go, sounds like it will be fun and great exposure for the club.

Mark,
Let me commend you on your promptnous in posting the pictures of the event.
Is it just my computer, or are the pictures really that dark?

Bob-
They look the same to me at home and work as they do on the camera. Must be you computer unless someone else sees the same. The resolution is bad from the changes required to get them on the website in acceptable size parameters. Or maybe i don't know what i'm doing - this is entirely possible....
