This is actually the real deal. We'll wait to see what happens.

This is probably one of the best FOIA requests that I've ever seen and I've seen lots of them in my job!

Freedom of Information Act request - used properly

I think you may be on to something. As a criterion for running for President, every candidate should release their own homebrew recipe. If they don't brew beer (I know the President didn't actually brew this...) then they're not in touch the rest of us.

I do think that making beer a lighthearted topic of conversation is a veiled attempt by the Obama campaign to bring Romney's Mormonism into the conversation and have Americans see him as out-of-touch not only because of his wealth but also because he won't drink a beer.

After seeing that they boil the honey in these brews, I am starting to think Gary Johnson is probably the best choice. Boiling honey should be a crime.

Really?!? Given the fact that Obama held the famous "beer summit" long before the campaign started and Romney ever entered the picture. The man is a beer drinker, period. Has nothing to do with politics or campaigning.

I like the way you think, but feel the need to taste the beer before deciding how to vote. I'm going to make a batch of White House Honey Porter and bring it to the Homebrew Fest in mid-October. If the recipe is tasty, Obama's got my vote.

I put the extract version of the Honey Ale into Beersmith and come up with a 1.067 brew. Not a lightweight. I plan on brewing this one shortly.

Probably not going to use Windsor yeast. I've not had luck with it in the past. I'll do s-04 or Nottingham.

I loaded the honey porter recipe into Beer Tools Pro and came up with a 1.053 OG for 5.75 gal. I'm going to start brewing this in a few minutes. Thanks to BIY being open on Sunday, I'll be able to squeeze in this brew today.

Just found out the White House is not subject to FOIA requests in any case. Glad they decided to release the recipes anyway.

Doing my Extract Honey Ale on Saturday AM. I'll be bringing it to the fest.

If anyone is interested, I have a guy at the Gazette that wants to shoot a video and write a story on the process of brewing the presidents recipe. They are shooting for it to be ready by election day.

If anyone is interested, I have his contact info. If you are using all-grain, I would like to see it done as well, since I've never brewed with all-grain before.

Thanks!

I was planning to do an all-grain version of it soon. Hopefully next sunday.

Northern Brewer has put together kits of the 2 recipes - Honey Ale and Honey Porter.

Only the honey porter boils the honey for the whole 60 minutes; in the ale, it's added at 5 minutes.
