Everyone should visit the Lift the Limit website http://www.liftthelimit.org/
and sign the petition for passing this bill. It would allow Iowa brewers to brew above 6.2% for consumption in Iowa. Travis at Third Base also has a sheet you can sign. It isn't perfect, but it's a start in the right direction.

Discussed this with Travis @ 3rd Bases over the weekend while quaffing his nice Belgium - case in point. How much nicer would this beer be if he hadn't had to stay under the 6% cap? It's not about higher alcohol, it's about making the beer the right way, the alcohol content is just a by-product of the brewing process to get the flavor profile that you're after.
The irony is that we can buy craft beers from adjacent states that are higher alcohol % than what we can brew here in IA. How screwed up is that? We won't even get into Imports.
But, as with anything else with government, it's all about the $$$. All we'd have to do to get this passed in the Legislature is to offer up an alcohol tax based upon %. For each % above 6%, tack on another nickel per 12 oz beer. Cha-Ching!! I'd pay another 15 cents to have a 9% imperial stout, or 30 cents to have a 12% Belgian. Wouldn't you?

KGAN lift the limit story...
KGAN had a story on last night about this issue, featuring Theresa Albert from Millstream, and Third Base brewer (and Beer Nut) Travis Scheidecker. Great to see some news coverage of this issue. The story linked below is a bit longer than the one that actually aired.
