MUGZ LOTMW Hombrew Competition

Post by Matt F »

MUGZ Land of the Muddy Waters Hombrew Competition is coming soon. Online entries are due Oct 15-26. Entries need to be there by Nov. 1st. I plan to enter some beers. Anyone else? Anyone heading to the Quad Cities yet this month that is willing to make a delivery?

I will be entering some entries, probably will just ship them like I did last year unless someone volunteers to take them.

I have a couple entries, too. If nobody else is going down it may be an excuse for me to take a trip down.

I am going to have three entries. Can I meet you somewhere on Friday or I can also drop at your place? Your choice since you are the delivery man.

it doesn't really matter to me but depending on what time you get off of work friday (I will be off at 4:30ish) I could also swing by your place after work and pick them up as I work not far away on 1st AVE/27th Street NE, or you can drop them off that evening as I will be in the garage brewing. either way makes no difference to me.
I am entering catagories 25C, 20A, 03A, & 18D, which are you entering?

I know 14B for sure. I am on the fence on where to enter my smoked porter and sour.

The smoked porter could go 22B or 22C. I am guessing they will combine categories for judging but I am still not sure which way to go on that one. I will probably go 22B Other Smoked Beer since I think the sour will go 22C.

The sour really fits 17C Flanders Brown Ale/Oud Bruin except those are usually aged in stainless steel, no oak. Flanders red does oak and is lower in gravity with more ruby colors than I have. Since some of it is from the Templeton Rye barrel I think I will enter it 22C Wood-Aged Beer and note the 17C as the classic style. I suppose 16E Belgian Specialty Ale is another possibility.

I have never had this much trouble trying to decide what catagory to enter a beer in. Most of you Nuts have had these two beers so what do you think?

I got a third for my Barrel Aged Imperial Smoked Porter in the wood and smoked beer category. Nothing for my sour or my IPA. Curious where I landed in the IPA's. There were 22 entries in that category.

In addition to Clint, Dan White took third in both Dark Lagers and Cream, Blond, Kolsch. Nice work.

353 entries this year. Hopefully we get some more Beer Nuts representing at this competition next year.

Way to go NUTS! Congrats to the winners.

They haven't posted all the winners on their website yet, so did anyone else come home with a ribbon??
