Bought a refractometer

Post by brownbeard »

I bought a refractometer on ebay yesterday. Now someone needs to explain how to use it, when it comes. Is this only for OG, or can you measure FG as well?

This is the one I got.

My wife bought me one from ebay for Christmas. I love it. Maybe a demonstration at the next meeting will be helpful. Also, check out the refractometer instructions on the morebeer website. They have a spreadsheet you can use that they say you can use for FG too. Most stuff says no for FG but this one shows how it can be done. I love it most for checking gravities during run off and during the boil.

The Beersmith program has a conversion you can use for FG.

I love my refractometer. Just a couple drops, instead of dipping that whole plastic tube in there. At first I was like "What in the world is a Brix?", but I've been using this website for my handy dandy beer conversions.
