Raspberry mead

Post by jjbuck »

Twenty days ago I pitched yeast on a five gallon batch of orange blossom honey( 15 lbs) mead with 6 pounds of raspberry puree. The gravity was 1.117. This evening I decided to dump the trub in the bottom of my "V-Vessel" and I checked the gravity as well. The gravity is now 1.002 and the bubbles are still popping through the lock at a rate of about 15/min. Tasted the sample and decided to drink the whole thing. If you're looking for a great mead recipe, C. Papazian's "Antipodal Mead" from the "Joy of Home Brewing" is fast and uncomplicated and when coupled with Wyeast's Dry Mead yeast produces a great tasting dry mead. This is my fourth attempt and every one has finished below 0.098. I figure another week(at least) before I bottle. Tasting at the March meeting.
