April 2009 Meeting

Post by blammers66 »

Hi -

After a recent trip to Benz, I heard the staff talking up the Beer Nuts, about their enthusiasm and attention to the beer tastings, etc. As I was unaware of the group, my interest was piqued.

I see that meetings are usually the third Thursday of the month - and I would like to attend my first meeting. Can anyone shed light on the place and time for the next meeting?

Thanks - love reading the posts.

April 2009 Meeting

Post by JimPotts »

Welcome!  Yes, we meet on the third Thursday of the month.  Normally, we figure out the next meeting location by the end of a meeting, but this month we all got confused as to who was having it.  We got our act together, and Dave Coughlin is hosting.  Look for a meeting post in a few minutes.

Since we will be doing a demonstration on how to plant and grow hops this meeting, the style will be Pale Ale this month.

Isn't it always Pale Ales?

Thanks Matt for bringing over the hop rhizomes and providing the attached document about how to grow them. For those that will be growing them this season, it would be nice to see how they are doing.

Thanks for hosting Dave, good meeting. Remember the Benz beer fest is coming up. We don't have a meeting before then so the website will be where you learn about when to show up, what to bring, etc...

Also, I will bring more rhizomes to the May meeting in case people still want some.

Hey Matt, those hops will be fine to plant this weekend, right? I didn't need to do anything with it last night?

They should be fine. I would put a damp paper towel in a bag with them and store them in a fridge if possible. Last year some of the other members planted some that I had stored in my fridge that way for over two months and they did fine.

Thanks Dave for hosting!

Great meeting., I think we're getting the hang of this. Let's keep the momentum up and we'll have a great club.

I stored my rhisome the way Matt described for a week or so in the fridge last year and it was fine after we planted it (that is, until the yard man weedwhacked it!! ) But, it's already making a comeback.! :o
