March Mashness, Friday, March 22 at Franklin's
March Mashness, Friday, March 22 at Franklin's
CANCELLED - Sorry folks
I am starting a new tradition in honor of the March Madness NCAA Basketball Tournament. I have been taking the first two days of the tournament off work since 2003 to dink around the house, drink beer and watch hoops. That Thursday is always a brew club meeting which use to be at my place until we grew out to the bars.
I am now declaring March Mashness. Those tournament days watching hoops are going to involve some brewing. I can never sit around just watching TV so I may as well be productive. I already have plans that Thursday including the brew club meeting that night. Friday, March 22, I am going to open up my brewery to anyone in the club that wants to stop by for a brew session. Not sure what I will be brewing yet but I will have something ready to go. Bring over some beers and or food to share and we'll brew a batch of something. I am leaning towards a noon start time but will post a firm start time closer to day of. Kind of depends if/when people can make it over so it may be a later start.

Seeing as tradition has it that the March Madness celebration is also the Club's Annual Chili Contest, do we want to do that on Friday, so it doesn't conflict with the meeting on Thursday, but still part of the Madness @ Matt's (assuming he'll host us)??

There may be a better time to do the chilli cook off. We should see if we could get a one time pass from Bricks to bring our chili in.
I do not intend to make this an official club event or anything because it makes for back to back nights which is tough to get a hall pass for many of us. This is just me brewing some beer and opening the doors to any of you that would like to stop by to see my system running or just hang out and drink some beer.
Many members have expressed an interest in seeing my brew system so this is an opportunity. I usually brew after work during the week very late at night while shuffling family duties at the same time. My typical brew session is get home from work and mash in. Help get dinner ready, check beer. Get kids to bed, check beer, hopefully sparging. Hang out with wife while running down stairs to check boil. Tuck wife in to bed, finish boil, clean rack to fermenter, clean, go to bed. Unfortunately my brew sessions are fairly hectic because of all the multi-tasking that goes on. It is rare I have actual time dedicated to brew.

You can't get with this with a bad hip - Matt
UPDATE: Start time not until 5PM. My mother-in-law is at my place during the day watching the kids so my wife and I may go out for lunch and some drinking during the day on March 22. I won't be home and get mashed-in until close to 5PM.

I may consider moving this brew session to a different evening. Tough to do two beer nights in a row for most of us. Maybe I will plan to do a later event not so close together. Let me know if you have your heart set on coming over. Otherwise, I may postpone the event. It has been a hectic day with the kids.
