2013 Club Grain Order Official Post
2013 Club Grain Order Official Post
Hello All,
Backpocket has graciously allowed us to piggyback on to one of their grain orders. They generally order from Country Malt Group every 2-3 weeks. There are 8 maltsters we can get grain from, see the below list.
http://www.countrymaltgroup.com/malt.asp
I'll be coordinating the order and I'm sorry to say will not be able to front cash for the whole order. Base malt prices are said to be in the $25 per 50 lb sack range and some specialty grains may be a touch more. As it is I'll collect funds at $25 per bag in advance and we can settle up any remainder on pickup day.
I'm asking that any current member who wants to place an order please post in this forum or send me a PM. I'll be tracking the order and will need to collect funds at the April meeting.
At this time I'm aiming for a late April order and an early May pickup date. We'll need to pickup the grain at Backpocket and it would be nice to give them some taproom business at the same time.
I want to make this as easy as possible for Backpocket to accommodate us, as they don't really have to do this. They're supporting the local homebrew community (i.e. us) out of a sense of community. It would just be nice to not make it a hassle for anyone.
Feel free to ask any questions in this forum or to me directly. Thanks!

I wasn't overly impressed with any of the Briess products I used last year except for the Pale Ale malt which was nice.
Rahr is from Minnesota and probably source their raw malting barley from the same place as every other US maltster.
I'd go with Great Western Premium 2 row. I'm getting 2 bags of it myself.

Gents, We're at 39 bags so far. I expect to reach about 100 before we're done. Fawcett Maris Otter and CMC Premium 2 row are very popular it seems.
I'm getting some MFB Pils and two row to check out the French malt.
