Getting back in the saddle
Getting back in the saddle
After several months off from brewing I'm getting back on the horse Sunday. I'm also taking the plunge and doing my first starter. I've had too many slightly under attenuated beers. The plan is to make my good 'ol American Stout.

Are you looking for step by step or in general?
I'm making a 500ml starter using a stir plate and flask I got at BIY. I could have made one cheaper but this one is very compact and I want to help support Joe.

How did the stir plate work? My home-made one is starting to die.

Seemed to work great for me. I made the starter late yesterday afternoon and it's pretty much done this morning. I used your no boil method BTW.

I bought the $45 stir starter plate.
I'd like to note that a stir bar will go down the drain pipe with no problem, Joe has made a dollar or twenty off of my stupidity in this regard.
