Bill to Change Law for Homebrewing Comps in Iowa
Per their Facebook post I believe IBU has contacted the AHA already. We'll discuss it more tomorrow in the cabinet meeting.
Note that there is really no controversy in the legislature regarding this bill, it passed both chambers in initial form unanimously. They just have to get the amendments straight via committee and send the bill to Terry B for sig. The only question really is on timing of the passage into law.
The majority of the changes relate to the three tier system from what I can tell. That system has a powerful lobby, which should oddly enough help us little guys out in this case.

Not likely, as they are not publicly advertised events, and generally take place at someone's home. Technically I suppose it's against the rules, but I can't imagine anyone would cry foul. Right now, it appears the recent change in enforcement is targeted against serving hombrew in bars. But time will tell.

This really is great news. We will be discussing this at the cabinet meeting tonight, among other things. Remember, all club members can attend a cabinet meeting. Understand that cabinet meetings are more like a business meeting than regular club meetings. And the business of the cabinet is first and foremost at the meeting.

The House bill was amended by the Senate, and the House unanimously passed the amended version. The amendment allows homebrew to be taken anywhere, as long as it's not being sold or "offered in exchange for any type of consideration."
Bill History for HF 488
April 3, 2013 House concurred in Senate amendment H-1194. H.J. 742.
April 3, 2013 Passed House, ayes 99, nays none. H.J. 743.
April 3, 2013 Immediate message. H.J. 745.
Don't know if it has to go to the Governor for signature?

I wonder if it Jimmy Carter at El Bait Shop could come back under the new law if people judged the best beer of the night. Were people buying beer before or was it a giveaway? That's where it is black and white.

They weren't buying, just sampling, which should be allowed under the new law.
