Oak Stout

Post by Sully11 »

I bottled some oak stout a couple of weeks ago. The oak flavor is overly prominent. I tried some the other day and it tasted like a liquid 2x4. If I let it sit in the bottle for a while, will that flavor mellow out?

It will. I had an overly-oaky scottish beer last year. I'll bring a bottle to the next meeting so you can see how much it's mellowed
Bad people drink bad beer. You don't usually see an empty bottle of Rochefort tossed onto the side of the road

Green treated or regular 2x4.    Nothing beats that chromated copper arsenate flavor.

I had a batch that I think the oak flavor diminished with time... or I just got accustomed to the flavor.  Either way it did get better with time.

It tasted as though I managed to melt oak and bottle it. Guessing it needs a little time to mellow
