Question about Sankey Kegs

Post by Gjoseph »

How easy are they to operate, carbonate, etc. I believe I have everything I need outside of a spanner to open it and trying to decide if I want to keep it and get the remaining parts/tubing I need or offer it up to anyone who already has a sankey set up.

sankeys

I keg in sankeys (5 gal sixers) and they work ok for my application. Removing and replacing the ring isn't too bad once you get the hang of it. It helps to have extra rings in case you bend one. The bad thing is if you do put a little bend in them they are near impossible to flatten out. I made a removal tool out of a screwdriver. I use linemans pliers to insert the ring... its takes some practice but works like a charm when you work the ring in.

I use sankeys for two reasons: 1. I already had some kegs 2. I couldn't find soda kegs at a decent price (at the time).

Here is youtube video that closely resembles my removal and insertion procedure... His removal procedure is likely to bend the ring. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZPfZ_AL380

If you a sixer keg and decide to not go that route please let me know if you want to sell it. I could use as many as I can find.

Actually selling it may be the route I want to go. It appears to be in excellent condition (if really shiny means excellent) and I also have a coupler (not as shiny) that could go with it. I will try to get a picture of it and the coupler and get back to you.
