Potosi

Post by Brando »

I missed going to 3rd base this weekend, because I went to go visit my brother in Wisconsin. He lives in Chippewa Falls, so we had to swing by the Leine place.

But on the return trip I checked out Sand Creek Brewing in Black River Falls. I nosed around inside for a few minutes, but it didn't seem like anyone was home. It did look like they had a nice little tasting room though.

A little farther down the road we stopped at the Potosi Brewing Company. It was touristy to the max, but I sort of like that sort of thing. Of course I didn't take any pictures.

Thanks for the post. I have seen adds for Potosi. I would be interested to hear if it is worth stopping for.

The Potosi experience was weak! It was full of folks, the service was rude, and there wasn't that much to look at for the cost. So between the money, service and stressful crowd experience I wouldn't plan any brewclub trip. Unless you like those aspects.

I did get some pictures if anyone wants to see me infront of a brew cave.

We always take the detour on our way to our favorite Wisconsin spot. I wouldn't go for the food (pedestrian), and the four times we've been there the services is inconsistent. However, the brews are pretty tasty. Their Good Old Potosi is a CAP, their Snake Hollow is an IPA, the Cave Ale is describes as brown ale, and then their Holiday is a bock. They sell growlers and 22 oz bottles. I wouldn't roadtrip there just for the beer, but if you're heading up or down highway 61, take the 3 mile trip down the hill.

I heard last night at the THIRSTY meeting that the Iowa State Liquor
Board has prohibited homebrew clubs from participating in Des Moines
area brewfests.....this affects the DSM and Ames clubs.

They are using the term "bootlegging" as a legal reason for doing
this..I am guessing that, if it's true, the State is mad that they are
not getting tax revenue from the homebrewers.

Supposedly there is some discussion of this issue on either the Ames or
Des Moines club forum...

Someone may want to ask Millstream, Third Base, etc, if they have any
info on this, so as not to be caught off guard in case the same thing
happens in our area....

A less alarming piece of news:

A new micro brewery is starting up in Iowa.
