June Meeting - LongBranch Marion & Beer Comp
June Meeting - LongBranch Marion & Beer Comp
Not sure if we have anough beer for a beer comp, but I will be there early to help moderate the beer comp and condition the judges. Anyone interested in judging let me know. I think we will probably only need three as we only have one style this time. Unless everyone in the club is bringing a beer to be judged, then it might get tight on time and need more judges.

What time are you planning on showing up? I am going to drop off my beer, but may not be able to stay. I will be back in time for the meeting though.Mr T wrote:Not sure if we have anough beer for a beer comp, but I will be there early to help moderate the beer comp and condition the judges. I believe we get the room starting at six, so I hope to get the entries and get the judges together to start asap after that. My concern is any straglers that are walk ins. To be fair I'd like to make sure the judges don't know ownership.
As well as make sure we can wrap up the judging at a decent time so the judges are not distracted by the general crowd. It should be a great setup for judging with tables and all.

First, a bit of a rant. We were awfully late posting info about this meeting. I missed the May meeting and only knew anecdotally that we were meeting this month at Long Branch. This is the first post that confirms the location. Are we not publishing the minutes of the meetings?
Are we suppose to bring food/snacks??
And yes, I am planning on entering beer in the comp - 2 in fact. I will be there right at six for turn in and to help with any setup. Obviously, I won't be able to judge, unless we have enough entries to break into 2 groups.
See ya'll tomorrow night.

Hmmm, Larry emailed out a notice a few days ago, but it looks like you're not on his list. Do you ever get his emails?
As for minutes, I thought I had posted them, but looks like I might not have. Mea culpa.

Yeah,, unfortunately this meeting wasn’t as promoted as we wished, both internally and externally. We were hoping to raise the roof on this one with the core group and maybe grab a few new stragglers that might otherwise feel less comfortable at a private home. Consider this a dry run.
I’ll be running the competition/stewarding or judging if we are short on judges. But I hope to have three judges, that are non entrants.

From the prez that was sent last week-
Just want to remind everyone that the June meeting is this coming Thursday at the Longbranch Hotel. It's located off of 1st Ave, kind of behind Bed, Bath & Beyond, for anyone that doesn't know already. The meeting starts at 7 but don't forget that this month is the fruit beer competition, which we will try to start at 6, so please try to get there early or have another member bring your beer early if you can't make it then. If you want to drop off your entry at my house prior to the meeting, please let me know and we can make arrangements. Hope to see everyone there.

And just to clarify. NO FOOD, you can purchase food there, water, some glasses and bread will be served so it should be a well supported event with all the seating and breathing room, plus no one has to clean up!! Well at least not our group. This should also be excellent for judging if we can wrap it up around seven as we will have plenty of seating and supplies.
Of course those who don’t wish to end the party are welcome to visit the longBranch bar located in the hotel, or 3rd base is just a stone throw away.
Thursday night is wing and karaoke night… so Tony can go wow the crowd with his Barry Manilow impression! J
Check out the impressive website http://www.thelongbranch.com/index.htm
We will see you all there, and will try and post signs if they let us, etc. Again, think DRY RUN..

First off, yeah I think we dropped the ball on this one but it gives us an opportunity to check out the facilities and see if it will work for the next time.
Here are a list of the basics:
1) We can bring Bread and Cheese ONLY for food
2) We can bring all the beer we want in any form
3) We are supposed to have the Wine Room, I haven't been there so I planned to check at the front desk
4) Club competition starts at 6 PM
5) Meeting Starts at 7 PM.
Here are some items to be discussed at this meeting:
1) Does anyone have or want to contribute to the Newletter that will be published at the end of this month?
2) Do we want to plan another Wisconsin beer trip around the SH*TTY BARN PARTY on 9/26?
3) Locations of the next meetings, many are assigned, but need to make clear.
4) What are people bringing for beer and equipment to the Amana beer festival?
5) Who wants to go to Hub City this weekend?

For all ENTRANTS in tonight’s comp, please note the following!
1. Judgeing starts shortly after six, please be on time to judge and/or compete
2. This is a fruit beer Cat. 20 by BJCP ( http://www.bjcp.org/2008styles/style20.php )
3. Please bring in a 12oz or larger bottle(s) with the following information attached by rubberband, please no glued or other markings on the bottles.
THE ENTRANT MUST SPECIFY THE UNDERLYING BEER STYLE AS WELL AS THE TYPE OF FRUIT(S) USED. IF THIS BEER IS BASED ON A CLASSIC STYLE (E.G., BLONDE ALE) THEN THE SPECIFIC STYLE MUST BE SPECIFIED. CLASSIC STYLES DO NOT HAVE TO BE CITED (E.G., “PORTER” OR “WHEAT ALE” IS ACCEPTABLE). THE TYPE OF FRUIT(S) MUST ALWAYS BE SPECIFIED.
4. Lastly if your bringing your beer to the judging and not with someone else and plan on sticking around, I'm asking that you please respect the judges by not looming over them and remain fairly quiet as to not disrupt the judging as these are typically closed to judges only. The bar will also be available for those who wish to make some noise, get dinner or a few drinks while the judging takes place.
I will be going over some judging tips with the judges before we start and judge a calibration beer, if you wish your welcome to sit in for this quick process and judge the calibration beer as a group.
I apologize I didn't get this information out sooner, I kind of worked things out last minute to be able to get there early enough to put on the judging.
Any questions post or PM me.

There was a poll for the Beer Camp, last time I looked was when I voted and Aug 1 was the leading. I can't find the poll now or I would post the results.
EDIT: Just found it votes are ( 8 ) for Aug 1st, ( 3 ) for July, 26th.
