Bad people drink bad beer. You don't usually see an empty bottle of Rochefort tossed onto the side of the road

Re: Water Quality Report
Does anyone have a Water Quality Report for their private well in Linn County?
Is reasonable to assume, pH-wise, water quality is regional? That is, the pH level measure at the City wells would be similar in the county?
Thanks

Re: Water Quality Report
With the mineral content being different I'd think the pH would be different. Maybe if you knew which aquifer you were in that may give an idea to water being fairly similar.
Plus doesn't cedar rapids blend their water to some degree with treated river water?

I have a report for my well if you are interested. I periodically send samples to Ward Labs.

Re: Water Quality Report
That would be helpful.
Given our close proximity, I would think our water would be similar.
For my next brews, I am going to adjust pH; a good guess should get me closer to what it should be until I can get a report on my well.
Did you get yours through the Linn County or Jones County Board of Health?

Re: Water Quality Report
No, I got my water analyzed by Ward labs (wardlabs.com). Here's the parts that matter for brewing:
Na 7
Ca 89
Mg 36
Sulfate (as so4-s) 12
Cl 14
Bicarb (hco3) 393
TA (caco3) 326
TH (caco3) 373
No detected iron.

If you like we can get together and I can walk you through how I estimate mash pH and treat my water. I recently had an RO system put in.

Re: Water Quality Report
That would be an AWESOME tech meeting
Re: Water Quality Report
We've done it a couple of times in the past. We do have a fair number of new people though. If there's enough interest we could always do it again I guess. Otherwise we could meet over a pint.

Re: Water Quality Report
That would work too. Water chemistry isn't exactly my thing. But I'm trying to learn more
Re: Water Quality Report
It's really not that hard. Like most brewing tools, you can go pretty simple and get good results. Or you can learn more and gain more control. Water is just another of the major ingredient groups.
