Has one of the Officers contacted Teresa about what they are doing for the Clubs? How many "free passes" do we get?
We had discussed pitching to her the idea of free passes to whoever brings in beer. We'd have to put a caveat on that, that you should bring at least a gallon of beer for the free pass. Otherwise you could just bring one bottle and get in free - that wouldn't be right.
Once we know what the deal is, we could post "who wants tickets?" and maybe someone would volunteer to make a run out there to buy them for the rest of us and bring them to the July meeting at Pete's??
Also, maybe the Club could subsidize the ticket cost for members who want to help out, but don't have any beers to bring? Something to discuss.

In the past, there's been no problem getting in free when you're pouring at the booth. At least, she let me in free last year, and I didn't bring beer.

As tony said, we should discuss with her about free passes for those who donate beer. However, I think a Gallon is to far on the low side. I think we should approach her with the concept with a minimum of 5 gallons (1 Keg or equivelent).
As far as you statement Jim, yes she may let you in. However, in past years we got 5 free passes, which translated into Teresa coming around with 5 free glasses, which is the only thing you are suppose to use. I got miffed with Teressa about it last year. I know, I am a miser, however, when I am donating 10 - 15 gallons of beer that cost me over $125 to produce I do not feel that I should be charged to attend the event. I am more then willing to dontate as much beer as I have on hand to the event, as it is for a good cause, but to charge me to get a glass and be there, talk about insulting. I do feel it only fare that those who donate should not have to pay.

Relax everyone and have a homebrew. I think you are all too worried about this. Bascially in the past, it seems we get most people in for free especially those that donate beer. $50 for a 5 gallon batch of beer? I know good and well you are all using bulk grain that costs you less than $.50 a pound. Even if you put 20 pounds of grain in a batch, with 4 hop additions and assume a packet of hop pellets cost you $3 (which is on the high side), and it is a belgian with a pound of candy sugar (call that $5) and a pack of Wyeast ($6), we are still looking at about $30. How are you spending $50 to brew 5 gallons of beer? You are a hobbyist, so you don't get to count your time.

Actually Tim, Last year was the first time I got in on the grain order. We did that in December, so no I was not using bulk grain to produce the beer that I brought. So yes, it was more expensive.
I like to brew with Marris Otter as my base malt which is what I used as the backbone for the items that I brought last year. This cost me $74.99/55 lb sack, Which pretty much took the whole thing. So that right there is over $30 dollars to produce 5 gallons, If you the amount of this and replace with speciality grains then it goes up even more. You say $3 for hops per ounce, "what you smok'in these hops man". This was last year during the hop shortage. Most hops were going for double that. So just to be conservative you are talking about approximately $20 for 4 - 1 oz additions. Which is probably pretty shy on even the less hoppy beers. Plus $6 dollars for Yeast (this is assuming you are not lazy and order 1 yeast pack and make starter, and not 2 directly, got to say this has been me a couple of times!). So there you go. That right there is $56 to make 5 gals. I can promise you that it took me at least $100 to produce the beer I brought last year.
Matt, I agree with you that it is nice to have the grain order with Millstream. It has saved me a lot of money this year. I also like us to keep a good repore with the local breweries because our hobby and their trade go hand in hand.

It is more a matter of priciple, It upsets me that I am there early setting up giving away free beer, again let me make this clear, "I DO NOT MIND GIVING AWAY MY BEER FOR FREE, I will bring as much as I have on hand whether it be 5 gallons or 25 gallons, it is an excellent cause and I give freely to it" (I will probably be able to bring about 20 this year as the wife is out of town I bought some new kegs and will brewing up a storm here this weekend and next.
One thing is and I know it is petty, I like to collect the glass, I am not like Dave and Brain and have 1000 different glasses from beer events (I know I am not as old as those crownies). I like to collect them. So, I would have to pay anyway to get a glass for it to put in my collection. Someone even brought plastic cups last year for those in the club that did not get one, but still had to pay so that I could get a glass.
Another internal issue to the club that should be done this year is. depending on how many free ticket/glasses we get. They should go to the highest donating members. It is not fair (example) that Tom brings 20 Gallons of beer and does NOT get a free ticket/glass and I show up early don't bring any beer and get a free ticket/glass. It does take money to produce the beers we brew, whether it is $30 or $80, the free tickets should go to those people to help offset their costs.
Finally I know, I am a long winded bastard. We should figure out who is going to the event by poll or what not, get a number and subtract the free tickets received from Millstream. Then go ahead and purchase that amount by the club so that we are not left out in the cold if they sell out. Chances are they will have tickets and glasses at the door, however, they had a lot more people attend last year then they thought, even going as low as selling plastic cups because they ran out of the glasses. So, I am assuming it will be the same way this year and they will have more show up then last year.

I don't really care that much whether or not some tickets need to be purchased. I just don't want to have members of the club show up to help and not be able to get them in.
This is the first year with pre-event ticket sales. My guess is that if they are not sold out, they will have the remaining tickets left at the gate. I think they are trying to avoid having so much cash laying around (since they almost lost it last year), limit the number of people, and speed up the line.

I posted a poll to try to get a head cout for the event and who will be bring beer. This way if we choose at the next meeting to do this as a club we should already have a head count.
