BBQ & Brew 2014: July 19

Post by PrestonAtNewBoCityMarket »

Hey Beer Nuts! I got what might be the best email I've received all year the other day. The Iowa ABD has officially given the go ahead for homebrew to continue to be a part of our event. That means I am opening registration for the homebrew competition right now.

Registration will be $10 per entry. The first 5 registrations will get in for just $5. Just my way of saying I dig you guys.

For now, the prizes for both the judged competition and the peoples' choice are set to $50 in gift certificates for the Market, but I anticipate that prizes will be added to the mix once I finalize some sponsorships.

Looking forward to having some of you here again!

I'm planning on vending for this again. Had a great time last year.

Great! Should be a really great event this year since we're planning it more than a month out.

I just signed up for it. Should be excellent and hopefully not a million degrees like last year.

Excellent. You're homebrewer #1. Hopefully the weather plays nice. I'll try to store some of the snow in our yard to use this summer just in case.

I had fun doing this last year even though I came in 2nd place to Kent.

I would do it again but I am not available that weekend. Have fun folks.

Where's the upvote button on this thing... I'll probably get annoying if I keep commenting how excited I am that people register. But, dang it, this event is fun and I like having you all be a part of it.

Thanks for seeking approval for your event with the Iowa ABD. That is a big thing to have approval of such an event as a precedent for other such events.

ABD approval was something that was a must going into this event for me. I was pretty excited to get their reply... I've got it printed out and hanging above my desk. Thinking of getting it framed...

I have not done this before, but would consider entering.

What quantity of beer is required to participate in the competition and the People's Choice? Are submittals in bottles, kegs, ??

Thanks,
Daryl

We require 5 gallons for each entry. Peoples' choice is done during the public tasting, so you can bring kegged or bottled... whatever works for you.

Last year, a steward brought the beer to the judges in a glass, so it doesn't matter if you bring kegged or bottled for that portion.
