WLP060

Post by DrPaulsen »

Have any of you guys ever used WLP060 "American Ale Yeast Blend" before? I noticed it for the first time today at BIY and figured I'd give it a try for a session IPA. Supposedly it's a blend of "Cal Ale & Lager Yeast" and works well for making faux lagers.

I used it to make a mock oktoberfest last year cause I didn't have the setup to do lagering. I think it came out well, brewed the end of August opened the keg 2nd weekend of oct, got a lot of good complements, but it was still a young.

I harvested some of the yeast and washed it and used it in a light session pilsner. Actually I still have a couple jar that I'm sure the yeast are long dead.

I'll definitely try it again for a faux lager.

I used it on an amber ale a month or so ago. So far the beer has not sat that long so the word is out on taste, but I have some more (friend gave me a baby food jar of it) and I plan to used it in a 10 gallon wheat recipe this Friday night split in two. One tangerine zest, one lemon/lime zest added at 5 min
