Border Hop Fest

Post by carrisr »

The following is from Back Pocket:

"Backpocket Brewing Announces Border Hop Fest!
A new, one-of-a-kind beer festival featuring breweries and beers from around the Midwest that are not normally available in Iowa.

We're excited to announce Border Hop Fest! The event will be held at the brewery on May 24 from 1-5pm.

Headlining the inaugural event will be Surly Brewing Company from Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. One of the most highly-regarded breweries in the country, we bet you and other craft beer enthusiasts from around the Midwest are familiar with Surly’s bold beers and aggressive style. RateBeer has named Surly one of the top fifteen breweries in the world for several years.

Several additional breweries are scheduled to participate, including Lucid, Flat Earth and Brau Brothers from Minnesota, with many others still in the works.

Tickets are available now. You may purchase tickets online at http://tickets.theborderhopfest.com, for $30 in advance or $35 at the door. A ticket will get you unlimited beer samples, and a commemorative Border Hop Fest glass. We believe the first Border Hop Fest will sell out due to the exclusive nature of the beers to be offered, and therefore we encourage you to purchase tickets soon!

Check the Border Hop Fest website at http://www.theborderhopfest.com as the date draws closer to see a brewery list as it is updated. We encourage you to also stay connected with us via Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/BackpocketBrewing and Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/BackpocketBrew"

I may be in. Wife is not interested. I hope for that price, there is going to be live music, or something. $15 more gets you into Great Taste.

Can I hitch a ride with one of you guys? I have a ride back, but no ride down, and don't want to leave a vehicle in Coralville...

Thanks!

Nice day, some good beers. Surly always rocks - coffee bender and furious. The Schadenfreude was a new one for me (German Dunkel).

They suffered from the first time festival blues - several vendors started running out of beers after 2 hours - Summit had closed up shop and bailed by 3:30pm. Surly had a 3pm release time for their black IPA (Blakkr). Pat and I got in line about 5 mins before 3, by the time we got to the front of the line, the keg was drained. We both got a small taste of the last of it.

None of the beer vendors had dump buckets or rinse water. Finally found they had put out bottles of water (cases just laying on the ground) at one end of the beer tents, with a plastic tub to dump into.

Growing pains. Let's hope for better next time.

Glad I didn't waste my money. I had Furious at Parlor City last night.

Yeah, I don't feel so bad missing it either. Thanks! Kind of makes me think that skipping first time festivals might be a smart move.

The beer festival market is flooded. And the majority are not worth the cash.
