2014 Cedar Rapids Beer Nuts Festival
Re: 2014 Cedar Rapids Beer Nuts Festival
First, nice job on the research, Randy.
Next a question - Are we going to merch the Beer Schwing lanyards again? If so, then the straight sided glasses won't work (I don't think the Belgian will work either. I tried mine and it's not stable - top heavy.) So, the pilsner, esquire water, and frankfurt would be the choices. I, personally, would pick the frankfurt, as it makes a statement - I'm drinking beer!
Note: the pilsner description says 2.5 oz, but it must be more than that, since it's 4.5" tall and 1.75" dia. I don't have a glass exactly like that, but I have one that's close and it is 5 oz (I measured it). Plus, for the math geeks, assuming that the top 2" is a straight-sided cylinder, it's 4.81 cubic inches, or 2.67 oz. Approximating the bottom half of the glass (ignore the last 1/2" of the base) as a 1.5" dia cylinder, would give you about 4.5 oz total.
Steven, do we know how to reach out to the Brewing Network guys to see if they were serious about coming?

Re: 2014 Cedar Rapids Beer Nuts Festival
My concern about the pilsner is the smaller size... there isn't too much room for head and we all know how well some beers pour at festivals, although if we can keep the lines down that wouldn't be that much of an issue.
Tony - I don't think the volume is that far off especially if you consider the glass ~0.08" thick all around and 1.75 is smaller than 2. it may be closer to 3oz than 2.5...
My top 3 would be the belgian, pils and frankfurt (although a little pricy)

Any objection to meeting this Wednesday [7-23] at Lion Bridge Brewing at 8PM again?

I'll try. What topics will be covered?
Bad people drink bad beer. You don't usually see an empty bottle of Rochefort tossed onto the side of the road
Re: 2014 Cedar Rapids Beer Nuts Festival
I should be there; I'll use any excuse to get a pint of Chocolate Stout - it is outstanding!
In the Fridge/On Tap: English Bitter, Schwarzbier, Cream Ale
In the keg: Wheat Beer, Russian Imperial Stout
In the bucket:
In the queue: Irish Red, American IPA

Might want to check this out: http://brandedbrewsky.com/store/tasters ... lsner.html
These are the 4.75-oz glasses that we used the first year (versus the mini version posted earlier).

How about other items for sale like these:

my favorite...
http://www.egrandstand.com/bottle-opene ... ilver.html
http://www.egrandstand.com/kopen-bottle ... yring.html
or metal http://www.egrandstand.com/mk029-tradit ... yring.html
http://www.egrandstand.com/bopen21-oval ... strap.html
Our repeat visitors may not need another beer lanyard, but we may be able to entice them with other club schwag.
I likely won't make the meeting this week. I like the first year glass or the Frankfurter, although that will be difficult to hand over for a refill using the lanyards.
My 2 cents worth.

I wouldn't count on that. I looked it up in Libbey's catalog, and they give the exact same info. Keep in mind that it's a "mini pilsner" shot glass. I'm guessing the glass is a lot thicker than you imagine.tony b wrote:Note: the pilsner description says 2.5 oz, but it must be more than that
Re: 2014 Cedar Rapids Beer Nuts Festival
I just measure my Festival of Beers glass, and it is 5 inches tall (an 1/2 inch larger that what this vendor offers).
Having attended two FofB's, most pours are not a full glass. The proposed pilsner glass might give a perceived improvement over the FofB experience by always giving a full glass (a sample should be at least 2 oz).
I think the vendor would send us a sample if we requested it - especially if we are an established customer. Seeing it and holding it would help us decide if that is what we would really like.
Or, we could contact Milstream and see if they would share the name of their vendor with us and get the 5 inch glasses.

Here is a pic of the 2012 glass and a pilsner that has a volume of 2.5 oz.
