Hops storage tip

I got a vacuum sealer for my birthday last year and love it. I am not a big fan of wasting bags on hop storage once you open it up and go to reuse it you can't get a great seal. (Operator error?)

So I grabbed a canning jar sealer and used the accessory port on my sealer. Packed up some hops and labeled it away in no time. I'm sure this isn't new, but I thought I'd share.

That's cool, my wife is gonna kill me so it seals the lid with the vacuum and removes oxegyen?

Yessir. I plan to do this with yeast as well to help preserve it

I think they sell a hand pump as well Craig, but that just seems like you are stepping over a dollar to pick up a dime to me

Food Saver Jar sealers ($10/Amazon) work fine with the accessory port of the "Seal-A-Meal" and "Rival" branded units with an Accessory port. The same parent company makes all units. The second cheapest Seal-A-Meal, which is the one I have, from Amazon was like $35 a few months ago. So you can have a bag sealer (that works with the FoodSaver, Seal-A-Meal and e-bay generic) that seals bags and either wide mouth or normal Mason jars for <$50. And it's good for food too...

But you don't need a $200 FoodSaver machine to do this.. my cheapo Seal-A-Meal works fine in both cases it's just a little harder to use.

I should add I was going to post a link, but it seems like the price of the low end units like mine have significantly gone up. That sometimes happens when Amazon is just out of stock on the units. But the $35 unit is now $82.. sigh..

But look around.. and any vacuum machine that has a port will work with the jar sealer... which IS still $10 on Amazon... The lowest end model do NOT have have a port though... make sure when you invest in a machine it has the port.
