Let me know if you have questions. I too was considering a RIMS but after seeing Franklin's setup I started to reconsider. I needed a way to control the water temp and I already had the Anova, an extra pot, and a coil. So I just needed a pump and tubing, which I would have needed anyway.
So is that another heater under the HLT, or are you using the ANOVA for all the heating. It looks like the ANOVA has 800W, so it seems like it would be kind of slow getting up to temp, but once close, would maintain it spot on.
I like this. As Alton Brown would approve, make stuff in your brewery multitaskers. Use your immersion chiller or counterflow chiller to do heat exchange for your mash and to chill wort. Nice cost saver. And here you have a device for brewing and cooking. Awesome.

Yeah I did the Matt Franklin way with my old keggle setup. I still have a heat stick and the temp controller. Maybe I will find a pump deal at some point and give this a shot with my cooler. It seems to hold temp really well so I haven't worried much
Tom it looks like Randy is also using a hot plate under the kettle to supplement the yeat
Yes, I picked up an inexpensive hot plate for extra juice. The Anova works really well for my small batches on it's own though. I haven't done any quantified tests, but so far it doesn't seem like the hot plate speeds up the heating much. I hope to run some tests soon. Tom, my Anova is also the original model and it's a little higher wattage.
Um, no that's going a bit far. I do have a well, so until that runs dry I'll be using the input rather than the output for my brews. Though since it runs through an RO filter, I'm not sure what difference I'd make.

ALERT!!!!! The ANOVA is now down to 100$ on amazon with code in amazon checkout!

GREAT price. I just wish that it was available for the newer model (I tried the code and it wouldn't take it.)
