Actually, I am considering doing just this. I read some forum posts that suggested orange zest and some grapefruit zest combined. Don't know if I want to mess with grapefruit.DrPaulsen wrote:Couldn't you just zest a regular orange? I've done this before with a Belgian Wit and had good success. If you own a nice zester (e.g. Microplane), it only takes about 1 minute per orange.
I heard some similar stuff about using grapefruit (e.g. The Jamil Show's episode on Witbier), but after smelling one in the store and comparing with a couple of oranges & tangerines, I just couldn't bring myself to use it.brownbeard wrote:Actually, I am considering doing just this. Orange Peel
I used a walmart brand. Tones Sweet Orange Peel. I bet Hyve would have it too. I made a really good clone of Hoegaarden with that stuff.
The real zest thing is a good idea. I've considered using; grapefruit, orange, lemon & lime in wheat beer with a little toasted 2-row, and biscuit. Making it a breakfast wheat!!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen more recommendations on a post than bitter orange peel… I think everyone in the club must have a different supplier.
I personally make a phone call, and go down to the bench between 2nd and 3rd street downtown. Always the best in town.

You can also go to the oriental stores in town or mexican stores for corriander. They sell it there. It might even be about $1-$2 lb. We usually shop at the one on Center Point Rd, just south of 42nd Street next to the I believe the Taj Mahal restaurant.
