Recipe for Disaster - Wort Rally
Recipe for Disaster - Wort Rally
I need to poll the club to see how many of you would be interested in participating in the Recipe for Disaster Competition.
And I really need a quick turn around on your feedback.
Here are the basics:
1) Lion Bridge will distribute wort used to make the Disaster at Meux Porter to home brewers, for the purpose of them creating a beer to be judged by Lion Bridge. One may be selected by Lion Bridge for replication and put for sale along with Quinton's other creations.
2) If you participate, at the appointed time, you will need to bring containers to carry 10 gallons of wort for you to make your own creation. The wort will be partially boiled, to ensure it is sanitary. You will need to complete the boil, create your own hop/augmentation schedule, and use yeast of your selection.
3) After approximately 2 months, your brew should be ready for judging.
The Cabinet is suggesting that judging day be a pouring day too. If this is the case, you can elect to submit bottles or present samples from your keg to be judged (these details are to be determined).
The entry fee could be as high as $30. The amount of wort you would receive would be 10 gallons.
We will limit your number of entries to two.
If we set this up properly, one or more winner's beer could be submitted for the Great American Beer Festival!
Under these conditions, how many of you would participate?
Would you participate if the parameters were to be different? If so, what would you like to see changed?
Suggestions?

I am interested in 1 entry.
The only issue I see will be when the wort is to be picked up.

Odd nuances with the GABF is you <the amature> need to be an AHA member. This needs to be a AHA/BJCP homebrew judging competition. I'm not sure if they are allowed to only accept certian wort recipes either.
It would be cool if we were there... not to be a Debbie Dower... I can see it falling though this year.

Nevertheless, it will be a fun event to do with LB.

I'm in. My vote would be that LB finishes the hopping and boiling so we focus on the fermentation and beyond, but I'll participate regardless.

I'd be interested depending on the timing. Brewery is all packed up because we are moving to a new house in mid April, probably won't get it unpacked till sometime in May. If we didn't have to boil I then I could for sure do it.

There's your experiment, raw ale! (technically, semi-raw, since wort will be pasteurized once before distribution)fargo41 wrote:I'd be interested depending on the timing.
