Boarding Party for the Rivers Edge Homebrew Festiv-Ale

Post by daryl »

Here are my volunteers so far...I will update this list/this post with additions/deletions I receive this week.

Karl Hoech
Tony Browning
Randy Carris
Andrew Konigsmark
Daryl McCall

Anyone else? We can probably take one or two more.

Uniform of the day....let's wear our blue Brewer T-Shirts, that should be cool!

We will work out rides/departure times later this week. But we should be there by Noon....and we need to be ready to go by 1:30 PM. We will grab a bite to eat after we tear down, clean-up, and store our equipment.

Who has the jockey box, and how many taps will it support?

We will need:
The Jockey Box
Misc. Hardware (extra quick disconnects for ball-lock and pin-lock)
Misc. Tools (wrench for CO2)
Beer Trough (actually is a wallpaper trough)
CO2 - does the club have CO2 to support us this weekend?
Club Signage/Banner
Beer Signage - white board with tripod and dry erase markers and eraser and cleaner
Buckets for dumping rinse water
Water cooler for rinse water
One (maybe two) of the large Rubbermaid totes, to ice down the beers.
Bar towels (yeah, we're messy sometimes)

Do we need the Tent? There was one there last year, but I don't think it was ours. If we use our, we'll probably share with whomever is next to us...last year I think it was CRAZE.

Anything else?
In the Fridge/On Tap: English Bitter, Schwarzbier, Cream Ale
In the keg: Wheat Beer, Russian Imperial Stout
In the bucket:
In the queue: Irish Red, American IPA

It will be kegs for my beer.

I don't have one of the blue brewers shirts. So it will need to be one of the older black ones.

Are we planning a car pool?

I cannot attend the festival but I can donate a cooler full of bottles. I can drop them off somewhere before Saturday or meet you as you are leaving town Saturday.

2 ball lock kegs for me. I will meet you guys there sometime shortly after Noon.

I will be bringing 2 kegs from Matt Franklin as well. He posted earlier that they are a double IPA and Disaster Dark Hoppy Saison. They are not listed in the app yet.

Do we want to merch anything? Drinker shirts, Beer Schwings?

Looks like a good list of yummy beers.

I can provide two keg pails as well as tools, ball lock and tap accessories, and a 5-pound CO2 bottle. But, I cannot transport the CO2 in my car.

Does anyone going have a more suitable vehicle?

We need to be shamelessly promoting our event while we're there.

Do we have Posters yet? Or at least the design that we could print off and make a couple of signs from to put around our bar? Or print some quarter sheets to hand out?

Bring lots of the Festival business cards to hand out.

While pouring beers, talk it up. Makes folks aware of the event; even though it's a bit of a drive, tell them it will be worth it!

Carpooling

Post by daryl »

I will be leaving from my home tomorrow AM, probably around 10:30....arriving on-site around Noon.

I will likely take the pick-up truck; it is a 4-door. And then throw most everything else in the bed. I have some straps and a tarp we can use to cover our valuables while we get a bite to eat after the festival.

Karl, Tony, and Andrew....are you guys going to carpool from town?

There's a good chance I can give Randy a ride to/from, he lives right down the road from me.

Thoughts?

Does anyone know if there is a breakout gas manifold we can use for the jockey box? AND, if the club's CO2 tank indeed has CO2?

I can bring a CO2 bottle (with CO2 even) if it rides in the back of the truck.

Daryl, I can meet you at your house or you can pick me up if willing. I live by Bever Park; PM for address.

I am in Chicago, so I am driving down from there. My buddy, Joe, will be coming with me. I have Franklin's kegs. Will plan to arrive Noon-ish.

We arrived back home a little less than an hour ago.

The Festiv-Ale was successful, a nice crowd, good food, and great company. We may have recruited another, newly formed, Beer Club to join us in August.

Thanks to everyone who donated beer, they were very much enjoyed....we poured 16 beers. I think the two most popular beers were Cal Corrin's Cats on Skates and Matt Franklin's Slappy Clear the Hop Box IPA. But truly, I tasted them all and there wasn't a bad beer in the bunch. We poured 10 taps and 6 sets of bottles simultaneously! AND ON THE ROAD!

Thanks to Mike for cleaning up the jockey box for the event and doing quartermaster duties of getting the equipment out of the trailer for pickup, and storing it back into the trailer.

A big big thanks to those who braved the trip down to Rock Island: Karl, Randy, and Tony; and supported by Tony's friend Joe and my son Sean. Everyone pitched in when it counted; and coupling that with a friendly crowd and other brewers, this day flew by.

I am already plugging it in to attend the 3rd Annual Homebrew Festiv-Ale in 2017, and I hope you will too.

Cheers.

Second that - had a great time. Weather was absolutely perfect. We should be so lucky for our Festival.

I will bring Matt's empty kegs and Cal's cooler full of bottles (mostly empty!) to the Club meeting this Thursday for pickup.
