Central Iowa Road Trip - Nov 19-20

Post by daryl »

The Cabinet has directed me to proceed in planning a Central Iowa Brewery Road Trip; departing Saturday morning on Nov 19 and returning the next day, Sunday Nov 20.

I am still in the process of selecting a hotel, but I plan for us to stay within walking distance of El Bait Shoppe.

The route will include a trip down US 30 stopping at two breweries in Ames, one in Boone, and then head south, probably for Firetrucker and one or two breweries around Des Moines, before we park the vehicle(s) in downtown Des Moines for the evening.

This is my first call for RSVPs. Create a reply to this post if you would like to go, will you be bringing your spouse/significant other.

We will work out other details as we go, and I will edit this post.

As always, feel free to post questions/recommendations....this trip is still a work in progress.
In the Fridge/On Tap: English Bitter, Schwarzbier, Cream Ale
In the keg: Wheat Beer, Russian Imperial Stout
In the bucket:
In the queue: Irish Red, American IPA

Last time in Des Moines, we stayed at the Hampton, which is literally a block from El Bait Shop. Forget what the $$ was, as the wife set it up. Easily walking distance to Royal Mile, Court Ave Brewing, etc.

I haven't cleared it w/ upper management yet, but I plan to attend.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to where to shop in the Des Moines area for a great selection of Spirits and Beer?

Not off the top of my head. Hard to believe they get anything we don't. Distributions tend to be by state.

I asked the Iowa Craft Beer Crew folks on FB, the consensus was Hy Vee.

Here is the count so far:

Andrew K. + 1
Josh Jensen
Tony B.
Karl
Brian H. + 1
Tim S. + 1
Daryl
Eric + 1

So far, we have twelve, with a tentative guest for Tony...which would put us at 13.

I will edit this post, to keep a running head count. Please chime in if you would like to tag along.

Looks like I've got other things going on that weekend, so I'm out. Sounds like a lot of fun, though.
