Wait until they buy Pico brew, now they control the ingredients, and onsite manufacturing in your house, you can make you own Budweiser at home

AB InBev buys Northern Brewer Homebrew Supply

My take on this is since home brewers don't buy big beer, this is how big beer still makes money off of home-brewers. Utilizing the giant procurement contracts they have, they buy grain, hops, etc in larger bulk for cheaper than northern brewer can right now. They sell those supplies to home brewers for similar prices at higher margins, thus the payback on this "partnership" is made.

My advice: Buy in bulk via club buys with local breweries or buy from Joe. Support local when you can. [emoji482]

Yeah, I didn't see it coming either. But, perhaps we should have. Being a player on that market gets them influence to a class of beer consumer where they had none before.

I agree with the buy local, or at least from a local agent. I buy from BIY for almost all of my ingredients.

Ever since Joe opened BIY, I can't recall buying for Northern Brewer/Midwest in forever anyway. They tend to be priced higher than other online competitors. I buy everything from BIY except our club base malt order and hops by the pound online. I can't afford to brew my hoppy beers at by the ounce prices. I do get hops from BIY when I just need a little this or that. I love having my local BIY. Thank you Joe!

So it was true. I understand the busisness move. Northern moves tons of product.

I can see the changing or pushing more of the same brands of malts which are used by AB breweries.

The only stuff I've ever bought from NB is the Columbus Day $14.92 extract kits, usually to catch up with my inability to brew much in the summer. At the price they sell them at there can't be a lot of profit for them. I suppose this may be the last year.

Agreed. The business of the US is business. I'm open to a buy out any time. Any takers? :)

NB is just a bit too slow to ship and too pricey anyway, and I only took advantage of them (I am admittedly a cheap bastard, I wear it as an actual badge of honor) as it is. So I'm not that upset. Probably not enough to be a "good homebrewer". But I shop at Aldi and Wal-Mart too. Four kids will do that to you...

Same here. Aldi rules! Without them I am not sure how I would feed my four kids and have anything left over for me.

Haha, yeah. Something about a bratwurst brown or something.
