Interesting story and saga.

Certainly seems that Surly has made some internal management/marketing decisions they felt strongly; I hope they are comfortable with the emerging results.

At the end of the day, business is business, but this seems like some personal issues are grounded in this situation.
In the Fridge/On Tap: English Bitter, Schwarzbier, Cream Ale
In the keg: Wheat Beer, Russian Imperial Stout
In the bucket:
In the queue: Irish Red, American IPA

Sounds ugly, indeed.

Will they still call it "Todd the Axe Man" now?

I was wondering if they would change the name of Todd the axe man as well. I was also wondering if there was more to the story after news dropped that he was leaving, this fills in some of the holes. I don't think Surly is going to be in trouble anytime soon just sad to see this happen to Todd and his wife.

Bummer news. I can't understand how he did not have some type of ownership interest. When he started it was just him and Omar. I do agree with the article noting that some more recent beers, while good, were not at all Surly. Growing pains. Three Floyds sure is a cool fit for him.

I think more and more that big beer is trying to do the same thing they did in the mid 1900's. Buy up all the competition and then close them down. Right now all of these acquired breweries are say nothing is changing, but it's not hard to imagine many will be shut down in a couple of years. Big beer is not happy about how much market they've lost to craft. They also have a very long term view.
